Performances by athletes at the Northern Championships

The Northern Athletics Championships were held at Sport City in Manchester over the weekend of 14th and 15th June 2014.

The Northern Athletics area covers the Counties of, Yorkshire – Lincolnshire – Derbyshire – Cheshire Lancashire – Cumbria – Durham and Northumberland.

This competition was for men and women in the senior and under 20 categories. However under 17’s are allowed to compete at under 20 if they wish.

Details of all of our athletes who competed over the weekend are as follows:-

 

Senior Men – 100 and 200 metre finals

Luke Giblin took the silver medals in both the 100 and 200 finals. He ran the 100 in 10.89s.and the 200 in 21.78s.

Luke has been in great form this season and over the last couple of months has put in some fantastic performances.

Senior Men – Hammer final

Alex Smith was the gold medallist with a winning throw of 68.63m

James Bedford took the silver medal with a throw of 65.89m.

John Twiddle, one of our greatest competitors was in 9th place with a throw of 40.17m.

Senior Men – Shot Putt final

John Twiddle took 6th place in this competition with a putt reaching 11.74m.

Senior Women – 100 metre final

Megan Hoult took 4th place in the final and she recorded a time of 12.25s.

Maegan Taylor was placed 8th in the final and her time was 12.50s.

Senior Women – 200 metre final

Megan Hoult finished in 5th place in the final and set a new PB of 25.28s.

Senior Women – 5000 metre final

Joanne Maddick finished in 6th place and she ran the race in 18:21.43s.

Senior Women – Pole Vault final

Clare Blunt was the silver medallist and she set her seasons best outdoors height of 3.70m.

Under 20 Men – 200 metre final

Joseph Cooper took 4th place in the final and he also set a new PB of 23.42s.

Under 20 Men – 400 metre final

Daniel Gray finished in 4th place and he ran a time of 51.13s.

Under 20 Women – Discus final

Kate Pattsion was the gold medallist and her best throw was one of 41.17m.

Under 20 Women – Hammer final

Maggie Okul who entered this competition as the defending champion retained her title with an outstanding performance. She broke her PB twice in the final. Maggie’s new PB is now 46.25m. She picked up her 3rd Northern Championships gold medal.
