Northern Senior League – Division 1

Stanley Park, Blackpool – Saturday 9th August 2014

 

The final senior league meeting of the 2014 athletics season took place in Blackpool and we had a good turnout of our senior athletes, complemented by members of our youth team.

It was a bright but breezy day. Temperature was 16 degrees with scattered showers.

We faced opposition from teams representing the following athletic clubs.

City of Manchester – Blackburn – Wakefield – Preston – Derby

Our athletes put in another huge performance and we finished in 2nd place on the day and in a final position of 3rd in the league table.

The outstanding performances of the day were:-

Luke Giblin

Luke who has been in the form of his life this season won both the 100 & 200 metres ‘A’ races .                                                                                                 In the 100 metres he ran 10.6s which was both a new club record and a new league record. He ran the 200 metres in 21.7s.

Callum Giles

Callum also did the sprint double in 100 & 200 ‘B’ races In the 100 metres he set a new PB of 10.8s. The 200 metres he won with a time of 22.4s.

Megan Hoult

Not to be outdone by the men Megan won the women’s 100 & 200 metres ‘A’ races. Her time for the 100 metres was a seasons best 0f 12.0s and for the 200 metres 25.5s.

Diane Smith

We were short of throwers in the women’s events and Diane who is one of our senior athletes and is held in high regard by everyone at the club , competed in Hammer – Discus – Javelin and Shot and picked up extremely valuable points for the team

Joshua Taylor-Brown

Josh’s speciality is one of the most gruelling of track events the 3000 Metres Steeplechase. He won the ‘B’ race and he took 6 seconds of his old best with a new PB of 10:33.0s.

100 Metres – Men

Luke Giblin was the winner of the ‘A’ race and he set a new club and a new League record of 10.6s.

Callum Giles was the winner of the ‘B’ race and he a new PB of 10.8s.

200 Metres – Men

Luke Giblin was the winner of the ‘A’ race and he recorded a time of 21.7s.

Callum Giles was the winner of the ‘B’ race and he ran a time of 22.4s.

400 Metres – Men

Daniel Holiday was in 5th place in the ‘A’ race and his time was 53.5s.

Liam Holiday was the winner of the ‘B’ race and he ran a season’s best time of 51.4s.

800 Metres – Men

Oliver Newton was in 5th place in the ‘A’ race and he ran a time of 2:04.5s

Jon Tucker was also placed 5th in the ‘B’ race and he ran a season’s best time of 2:12.9s

1500 Metres – Men

Jonathon Beharrell was placed 6th in the ‘A’ race and he recorded a new PB of 4:22.6s.

Shaun Smith was in 4th place in the ‘B’ race and his time was 4:29.4s.

3000 Metres Steeplechase – Men

Gregan Clarkson was the winner of the ‘A’ race and he ran a season’s best time of 10:27.7s.

Joshua Taylor-Brown was the winner of the ‘B’ race and he recorded a new PB of 10:33.0s. taking a full 6 seconds off his old best.

5000 Metres – Men

Jon Tucker was in 5th place in the ‘A’ race and he ran a new PB of 17:43.1s.

Jack Michaels finished 4th in the ‘B’ race and his time was 18:23.4s.

400 Metres Hurdles – Men

Daniel Holiday took 2nd place in the ‘A’ race and ran a season’s best time of 57.8s

Jack Michaels was in 4th place in the ‘B’ race and his time was 64.9s.

 110 Metres Hurdles – Men

Matthew Elvidge took 3rd place in the ‘A’ race and he set a new PB of 18.2s..Sam Dewsbury was also in 3rd place in the ‘B’ race and he set a new PB of 21.0s.

Hammer Throw – Men

Peter Smith was the winner of the ‘A’ competition with a throw of 50.53m.

John Twiddle was the winner of the ‘B’ competition with a throw of 39.22m.

Discus Throw – Men

Peter Smith was the winner of the ‘A’ competition and threw a season’s best of 40.46m.

John Twiddle took 2nd place in the ‘B’ competition and his best effort measured 31.55m.

Javelin Throw – Men

Peter Smith was in 4th place in the ‘A’ event with 35.72m.

Daniel Holiday was also 4th in the ‘B’ event with 32.73m.

Shot Putt – Men

John Twiddle was the winner of the ‘A’ competition with a best putt of 11.96m.

Peter Smith took 3rd place in the ‘B’ competition with a season’s best putt of 9.59m.

Long Jump – Men

Matthew Elvidge took 2nd place in the ‘A’ competition with a leap of 6.51m.

Sam Dewsbury also took 2nd place in the ‘B’ competition with 5.73m.

Triple Jump – Men

Matthew Elvidge was in 3rd place in the ‘A’ competition with a jump of 11.90m.

Nathan Hood was also in 3rd place in the ‘B’ competition with 10.14m.

High Jump – Men

Curtis Metcalfe was in 4th place in the ‘A’ event clearing a a season’s best height of 1.75m.

Sam Dewsbury took 2nd place in the ‘B’ event setting a new PB of 1.75m.

 Pole Vault – Men

Liam Holiday was the winner of the ‘A’ competition clearing a season’s best height of 3.70m.

Nathan Hood took 2nd place in the ‘B’ competition with a height of 2.10m.

 

100 Metres – Women

Megan Hoult was the winner of the ‘A’ race where she ran a season’s best time of 12.0s.

Megan Grant took 4th place in the ‘B’ race and her time was 13.5s.

200 Metres – Women

Emily Lyons took 2nd place in the ‘B’ race and she recorded a time of 26.4s.

Megan Grant and Emily are both members of our youth team and they put in impressive performances on the day.

400 Metres – Women

Clare Blunt was in 4th place in the ‘A’ race and she set a new PB of 62.0s.

Jess Lee was also 4th in the ‘B’ race and her time was 75.5s.

800 Metres – Women

Jessica Cappleman took 3rd place in the ‘A’ race and set a new PB of 2:33.3s

Laura Egan was also in 3rd place in the ‘B’ race and she ran 2:52.9s.

1500 Metres – Women

Jessica Cappleman took 3rd place in the ‘A’ race and she ran a time of 5:27.6s.

Laura Egan took 2nd place in the ‘B’ race and her time was 5:33.2s.

3000 Metres – Women

Laura Egan took 3rd place in the ‘A’ race and her time was 11:41.3s.

100 Metres Hurdles – Women

Clare Blunt was the winner of the ‘A’ race and she set a new PB of 16.0s.

Hammer Throw – Women

Maggie Okul took 2nd place in the ‘A’ competition with a throw of 40.87m.

Diane Smith was also in 2nd place in the ‘B’ competition with a best effort of 32.05m.

Discus Throw – Women

Diane Smith was in 4th place in the ‘A’ event her best throw measuring 19.82m.

Jessica Cappleman was also place d 4th in the ‘B’ event with a throw of 12.76m.

 Javelin Throw – Women

Maggie Okul took 3rd place in the ‘A’ event and she set a new PB of 27.33m.

Diane Smith was placed 4th in the ‘B’ event with a throw of 18.75m.

Shot Putt – Women

Maggie Okul was placed 5th in the ‘A’ event with a best putt on the day of 8.10m.

Diane Smith was in 4th place in the ‘B’ event and she set a new PB of 7.01m.

Long Jump – Women

Emily Lyons was in 5th place in the ‘A’ event with a season’s best effort of 4.60m.

Jess Lee took 3rd place in the ‘B’ event and she set a new PB of 4.13m.

Triple Jump – Women

Megan Hoult took 2nd place in the ‘A’ event with a season’s best jump of 9.63m.

Jess Lee was also placed 2nd in the ‘B’ event and she set a new PB of 9.20m.

High Jump – Women

Clare Blunt was placed 4th in the ‘A’ event clearing a height of 1.40m.

Megan Grant was also in 4th place in the ‘B’ event with a new PB of 1.10m.

4 x 100 Metres – Women

Our Team of:-   Clare Blunt – Megan Hoult – Megan Grant – Emily Lyons took 2nd place and recorded a time of 50.3s.

 

4 x 400 Metres – Women

Our Team of:- Megan Hoult – Clare Blunt – Jessica Cappleman – Laura Egan finished in 4th place and they ran a time of 4:45.9s.

 

4 x 100 Metres – Men

Our Team of:- Curtis Metcalfe – Callum Giles – Matthew Elvidge – Luke Giblin were the winners of the race and they set a new club record of 43.4s.

 

4 x 400 Metres – Men

Our Team Of:- Jonathon Beharrell – Liam Holiday – Luke Giblin – Daniel Holiday finished in 3rd place and they recorded a time of 3:32.8s.
