Northern Inter Counties Championships

Derby – Saturday 2nd August 2014

 

These Championships are held annually and at a different location each year in Northern England. They are organised by ‘Northern Athletics’ and athletes are selected to represent the area in which they train and compete.

For athletes from Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire together with North Lincolnshire the governing body is called Humberside and they compete under that name.

The other regions competing in the Championships were:-

Cumbria – Derbyshire – Greater Manchester – Lancashire (and Isle of Man) – Merseyside –       North East – Yorkshire

This competition was contested by members of the youth teams, they competed in the under 15 and under 17 age category.

It was a hot and humid day in Derbyshire with frequent showers of rain.

The winners on the day were Yorkshire with a points total of 589. Humberside were placed 5th with 336 points and Merseyside finished in 8th and last place with 181 points.

Details of all our clubs athletes and those from other clubs in the East Riding of Yorkshire and their performances on the day are as follows.

Under 17 Men

Nathan Hood took 4th place in the 100 metres Hurdles where he set a new PB of 18.48s.

                         He also took 3rd place in the pole vault and equalled his PB 2.90m.

Dominic Singh was placed 3rd in the 100 metres ‘A’ race and he set a new PB of 11.07s.

Matthew Backhouse also took 3rd place in the ‘B’ race and his time was 11.33s.

Marcel Dalee was placed 5th in the 800 metres and he ran a time of 2:03.74s.

Jack Brothwell finished in 5th place in the 1500 metres and he set a new PB of 4:28.2s.

Shaun Smith finished in 5th position in the 3000 metres and he recorded a time of 9:46.31s.

Adam Coles competed out of his age group in the high jump, against older and more experienced athletes. He finished in 7th place with a best clearance of 1.50m.

Under 17 Women

Charlotte Paterson took 2nd place in the 100 metres ‘A’ race and she recorded a time of 12.18s.

Luci Preston also finished in 2nd place in the 100 metres ‘B’ race and her time was 12.87s.

Luci also ran in the 300 metres where she finished in 6th place and set a new PB of 43.57s.

Maggie Okul was placed 5th in the javelin throw and she set a new PB of 29.03m.

                         She also finished 3rd in the shot putt ‘B’ competition with a putt of 8.85m.

Sophie O’Hara took 3rd place in the shot putt ‘A’ competition, her best effort being one of 11.26m.

Under 15 Girls

Hannah Kynman took 3rd place in the 100 metres ‘B’ race and she recorded a time of 13.07s.

She was also 3rd in the 200 metres ‘B’ race her time was 26.86s.

Amelia Benson was placed 5th in the 100 metres ‘A’ race and she ran a time of 12.88s.

Libby Wheeler took 4th place in the long jump and she set a new PB of 4.82m.

 

Under 15 Boys

Adam Coles took 4th place in the 80 metres hurdles and he set a new PB of 12.54s.

Joshua Tranmer was the winner of the shot putt and he also set a new PB of 12.00m.
