Kingston upon Hull Athletic Club
Stars of the Future Open Meeting
Loughborough University – Sunday 7th September 2014
A small group of Kingston athletes made the trip to Loughborough University’s top class facility used by many of the countries’ leading athletes to take part in the annual “Stars of the Future” meeting promoted by the resident club Charnwood AC. For most of the athletes it was a step into the unknown with totally different opposition to that encountered previously, mainly from Midlands clubs, with a handful of familiar faces from the North. They returned home with 3 medals between them. One gold, one silver and one bronze.
The gold medal was won by Driffield’s Shaun Kerry, continuing to show his talent for throwing with a victory in the under 13 boys shot with a personal best of 9.46m.
Not to be out done, his older sister Sian Kerry produced a lifetime best of 26.61m to take silver in the under 17 javelin.
Kingston’s other medallist was Sam Croney with a bronze in the under 13 boys 75m hurdles, clocking 14.26 sec. Earlier he had set a new best of 14.17 sec in the 100 metres.
Missing out on medals but having the satisfaction of collecting new lifetime bests were the versatile Jodie Martin who clocked 15.12s. for the 100metres and 2:45.50s.for the 800metres.
Another all-rounder, Becky Chivers ran 13.30s.in the 70metres hurdles.
Promising sprinter Caitlin Umpelby recorded a time of 13.40s.for the 100metres.
Ciara Andrews who registered a putt of 6.06m.in the shot and Elliot Lawrence who ran the 800 metres in 2:39.46s.
A regular member of Kingston’s young athletes team Sam Kyriacou ran her last race in our blue & gold vest, taking part in the under 13 girl’s sprints. Having moved to Cheshire earlier in the summer a change of club will soon follow, however her progress will still be followed closely by her old club mates and coaches who will all be keen to see this season’s big improvement continue in the future.
