Yorkshire County Combined Events Championships

Cleckheaton – Saturday & Sunday – 6th & 7th September 2014

Two Kingston upon Hull athletes produced outstanding performances at the Yorkshire Athletics Association Combined Events Championships held in Cleckheaton.

In the under 15 girls event Venus Morgan was restricted to competing in the open event due to the continued existence of Humberside as an athletics county and ended the day as a clear winner of the event by over 450 points.

The 13 year old Cottingham High School pupil has excelled in both hurdles and long jump this season. She established a big early lead with a time of 12.41 sec in the 75m hurdles and she set a new personal best of 4.98m in the long jump.

Further lifetime bests came in the shot with 7.88m (more than a metre further than her previous best)

High jump, with a clearance of 1.46m. and she ran the 800m in2:48.88 s. to end a memorable day with a score of 2,627 points, placing her just outside the top 40 nationally in her first year in the age group. The tremendous progress made by Venus this season is highlighted by the huge improvement in her score from the 1,752 total she managed last season when making her combined events debut as an under 13 competitor.
