Yorkshire Veterans Championship

John Twiddle and Darren Gibson, two veteran members of the ‘Hull Hammer Squad’ journeyed to Cleckheaton to compete in the Yorkshire Veterans Championship, on Sunday 12th October.
John competes in the V45 category, athletes aged over 45 but under50.Darren is in the V50 category, athletes who are aged 50 and over.
It was a nice way for them to end the season, in pleasant surroundings and welcome autumn sunshine.
John Twiddle
John won the gold medal in the hammer competition with a throw of 41.27m. He was pushed all the way by Nick Crimmen, who was throwing in his home circle, Nick also threw over 40 metres.
John also won gold in the discus, with his 2nd best throw of the season 34.04m.
He picked up his 3rd medal of the day, a silver one this time, in the shot putt competition with a throw of 11.66m. Nick Crimmen gained revenge taking the gold medal with a throw of 12.09m.
Darren Gibson
Darren won the gold medal in the V50 hammer competition, with a throw in excess of 40 metres. This was his 4th consecutive victory at the Yorkshire veteran’s championship. He also won the title in 2011/2012 and 2013.
This follows up his gold medal performance in the hammer on the 11th of May this year at the Northern Veteran’s Championship in Leigh.
