British Athletics Cross Challenge

Shaun Smith is one of our middle distance runners. He competes in the Under 17 age group and he represents the club in both the Youth Development League and Northern Senior League meetings.
He also competes on the road and at cross country competitions.
On Saturday 29th November 2014, he travelled to Liverpool, where he was one of many hundreds of athletes at the British Athletics Cross Challenge, which was this year held in Sefton Park, Liverpool.
Most of the top cross country runners in the UK were at the meeting as the race was also used as a ‘Trial’ for the forthcoming European Cross Country Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria.
Shaun ran in the under 17’s, 5.5 kilometre race, where he was one of 121 runners. He finished in 52nd place and recorded a time of 18:58s.
He ran a magnificent race in against a field of outstanding quality.
Among Shaun’s achievements during the 2014 season are:-
- Winner of the 3000 metres gold medal at the Humberside County Championships.
- Winner of the 3000 metres at the Kingston upon Hull ‘Open Meeting’
- 5th place finish in the Northern Athletics 3000 metre final
- 5th place finish in the Northern Inter Counties 300 metre final.
