Sale Harriers ‘Open Series’

Sale Harriers held their ‘Open Series’ Indoor Meeting at the Sport City Athletic Stadium in Manchester on Sunday 21st December 2014.
Four of our clubs senior male sprinters made the journey over the Pennines to compete in the 60 metres sprint events. 121 sprinters entered the competition and they were split into 23 heats. The athletes with the fastest times proceeded to the second round where they split into 5 more races.
Luke Giblin is the clubs number one sprinter and he had a fabulous track season in 2014. He was a double silver medallist at the Northern Championships and a gold medallist at the Humberside Championships, where. In the 100 metres he set a new Championship record, running a lifetime best of 10.6s.
In his first 60 metres race at Sport City he took 3rd place in 6.96s. This was not only a new PB but also a new club record.
His second race saw him finish in 2nd place in a time of 6.99s.
Luke recorded the 3rd fastest time of the day.
Callum Giles is another Humberside Champion. He won the 200 metres gold and the 100 metres silver medal at the 2014 championships, where he was beaten to the gold by his team mate and training partner Luke Giblin
At Sport City he won both of his 60 metres races, in the first he set a new PB of 7.06s. In the second he recorded a time of 7.07s.
Callum recorded the 7th fastest time of the day.
Gideon Okoh was the bronze medallist at the 2014 Humberside Championships, behind Luke and Callum. He won the gold medals however at both long jump and triple jump.
He took 3rd place in both of his 60 metres races at Sport City, recording a time of 7.31s in his first race and 7.25s in his second.
Gideon recorded the 12th fastest time of the day.
Samuel Henriquez took 3rd place in his first 60 metres race where set a new PB of 7.44s. In the second he was placed 5th recording a time of 7.52s.
