Junior Training Group – Athlete of the month

January 2015

Daniel Chadwick has been selected by our junior coaches as their athlete of the month for January 2015.

Daniel is 11 years of age and he joined the training group on the 8th of September 2014 and he has been an active and popular member of the group since day one. He has made steady progress since joining us and in the last couple of months has announced his arrival on the junior competitive scene with some stunning performances.

He made his competitive debut for Kingston on the 27th of December 2014 at the Sheffield Open Cross Country meeting, which was held in Graves Park in the Steel City. Heavy snow had fallen overnight and the course was covered with eight inches of the white stuff. All the races went ahead as scheduled in the extremely demanding conditions.

Daniel ran in the 2500 metres race where he finished in 3rd place, recorded a time of 14.44s and in his very first competition came home with a bronze medal.

On the 4th of January 2015 he lined up in Weelsby Woods in Grimsby to take part in his first championship competition, the 40th Humberside Cross Country Championships. Daniel ran in the 2000 metres race and finished in 4th place with a time of 8.40s.

On the 24th of January he travelled to Pontefract Racecourse along with another 2902 athletes, to do battle in the Northern Cross Country Championships. The course resembled a swamp, with thick cloying mud and pools of water. Among the many athletes he rubbed shoulders with there was Alastair Brownlee, the 2012 Olympic Triathlon Champion. Daniel ran in the 3100 metres race and he finished in the lower half of the field with a time of 13.18s. In only his 3rd race for the club he had competed in a major championship meeting and the experience he gained there was priceless.

A well deserved award for Daniel, now all he has to do is keep it up.
