Kingston upon Hull Athletic Club
35th Barton and District Cross Country Race
Sunday 1st March 2015
Seven of Kingston’s youth athletes made the journey over the Humber Bridge on a cold and windy Sunday 1st of March to compete in the 35th running of the Barton and District Cross Country race. They were part of a field of 391 runners.
The Under 20 men’s race was won by Harry Powell who completed the course in a time of 35:05s. He notched up his third cross country title of 2015, following his victories in the Humberside County and Humberside Schools Championships.
Shaun Smith ensured that his fine run of form continued by taking 2nd place in the under 17 men’s race and he returned a time of 22:10s.
In the under 13 boy’s event Robert Smith finished in 13th place, navigating the course in 18:38s. His team mates Finlay Pickering the Humberside County and Humberside Schools Champion and Matthew Lyons both suffered injuries during the run and were unable to finish the race.
The under 13 girl’s saw Abbie Haigh put in another excellent performance to take 5th place and record a time of 8:04s for her efforts. Jess Townsend was making her first cross country appearance of 2015 and she did struggle a little but a strong and gutsy finish saw her pass several athletes and finish 21st in the field.
