E.I.S. Stadium, Sheffield – Sat 14th & Sun 15th March 2015

Kingston’s sole representative at the England combined events championships was 16 year old Nathan Hood. He has been with the club since the age of 10 and has been a multi-eventer from day one.

The athletes competed in a heptathlon event, in which they took part in the track races over 60 metres, 1000 metres and 60 metres hurdles and in the field events of pole vault, high jump, long jump and shot putt. The competition took place over two days on the weekend of 14th/15th March.

Nathan had a very good weekend. The opening event, which was the 60 metres, set the tone for the day, when he ran a season’s best of 8.27s, just one hundredth of a second outside his PB.

The other track events saw new PB’s in both the 1000 metres where he ran 3:16.52s and the 60 metres hurdles where he clocked 10.62s.

The field events saw him set two new PB’s. In the shot putt he launched a huge throw of 7.83m increasing his old PB by 85 centimetres and in the high jump he increased his old best by 3 centimetres.

The long jump saw Nathan produce a season’s best performance with a leap which measured 5.39.

The pole vault saw him put in another season’s best effort when he cleared a height of 2.05m. This event however was Nathan’s one disappointment over the weekend. He is a good pole vaulter but has been unable to practice as much as he would have liked too. There have been problems with the stanchions back at the club and the vaulters have only been able to practice their drills.

Nathan amassed a total of 2785 points in this competition which was another new PB. He was happy with it but was left to rue his lack of pole vaulting practice. If he had got anywhere near his potential he would have passed the 3000 points mark.

In the 2014 season Nathan was the 400 metres hurdles champion at the Humberside Schools Championships. He was the pole vault silver medallist at the Hull International Athletics Festival Meeting and at the Humberside County Championships he won silver in the triple jump and bronze at pole vault.
