Spring Open Meeting – Costello Stadium, Hull
Sunday 12th April 2015
Kingston staged the first of this year’s Open meetings at the Costello Stadium on the 12th of April. The event was well attended by athletes coming from all parts of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and a fair few from much further away.
It was a cold and miserable day with a strong gusting wind making conditions difficult for all the athletes, both track and field. We saw some excellent performances from all age groups, ranging from under 11’s to veterans.
Details of performances of Kingston senior athletes are as follows:-
The senior women’s 100 metres saw 20 year old Maegan Taylor, who is in her 10th season at the club take the gold medal in the 100 metres, running a season’s best time of 13.5s with team mate Amina Iredale finishing in 4th place in 15.7s.
In the senior men’s 200 metres, 19 year old Adam Preston, who has just made the move up from the youth team, took the gold in the 200 metres with a season’s best effort of 25.4s and his clubmate Samuel Henriquez claimed the silver medal with a run of 26.2s.
Adam Preston returned to the track to contest the 400 metres race where he collected a silver medal with another season’s best performance of 52.1s.
The 800 metres found Mark Cage who is in his 8th season with Kingston finish in 7th position, running a season’s best time of 2:28.3s.
Gregan Clarkson who is the UK Biathlon champion and a former two time World Biathle champion, competed in two events. In the 400 metres hurdles he took 2nd place and he recorded a PB for the event, running a time of 72.4s. On more familiar territory he took gold in the 3000 metres running a season’s best time of 9:35.1s.
The long jump competition saw 3 Kingston athletes going head to head for the medals. Sam Dewsbury was the winner of the competition and he also set a new PB for the event of 6.31m. Matt Elvidge and James Wardle, who have both recently moved up from the youth team had a real scrap for the silver and bronze with Matt taking silver with a season’s best effort of 5.87m and James just 2 centimetres behind with 5.85m which was a season’s best for him too.
The senior women’s hammer competition saw Abbi Carter the clubs foremost female thrower assert her authority with a season’s best of 56.58m to take the gold medal.
In the men’s competition James Bedford produced a season’s best performance of 63.67m to take the gold.
