Commsport Open Meeting

The Commsport Open Meeting proved to be a popular event and was well attended by athletes from Yorkshire and surrounding counties. It was open to entrants of all ages and provided electronic timing for the runners.
The highest ranked individual in each age category from under 13 upwards was awarded a prize of £50. The under 11’s were awarded certificates.
Ten athletes from Kingston’s youth and junior teams made their way over to Sheffield for the competition and details of their performances are as follows.
17 year old Eliot Gay ran in both the senior men’s 100 and 200 metres races. He set new PB’s in both races, finishing 4th in the 100 in a time of 11.38s and taking 2nd place in the 200 metres in 23.01s.
The reigning Northern shot and discus champion, 15 year old Josh Tranmer, took on both of those events in the under 17 category. He took 2nd place in the discus with a throw of 36.60m and threw a new PB of 12.12m in the shot for 3rd place.
Under 13 years athlete Ben Copley, one of the club’s most promising and fast improving young throwers, took on three disciplines, shot, discus and javelin. He won all 3 events, setting a new PB of 36.04m in the javelin, which propelled him up the rankings to No. 4 UK, and winning the shot where he is ranked No. 14 UK with a putt of 8.70m and discus where he is No. 2 ranked UK with a throw of 25.94m.
15 year old Bryony Underwood competed in the senior women’s high jump competition, where she pulled out a season’s best clearance of 1.50m for a 2nd place finish.
Our under 13 girl’s group were well represented at this competition and it was an excellent day out for Katie Smith, with one 1st and two second place finishes. She won the 150 metres race where she also set a new PB of 21.79s and produced another new PB of 14.60s in the 100 metres to take 2nd place. Katie had to settle for 2nd place again in the 70 metres hurdles where she clocked 12.89s for her run.
Alanah Thoresby ran a new personal best time of 22.66s to take 2nd place behind her team mate Katie in the 150 metres. In the high jump she pulled out a new personal best height clearance of 1.31m to win the event and in the 800 metres Alanah ran a season’s best time of 2.57.96s for a 6th place finish.
Jodie Martin was the winner of the 800 metres race where she ran a new personal best time of 2:38.98s. She also contested the 150 metres where she finished in 5th place with a time of 27.92s.
Jess Townsend took on the javelin, shot and discus disciplines. She won the discus event with a throw 13.03m a personal best for her. The shot saw another new PB of 5.09m and another 1st place finish. The javelin saw Jess take 3rd place with a throw of 8.30m.
Twin sister Ellie Townsend, who is still easing her way back into competition mode, having just recently returned after injury, took part in the high jump event. Ellie took 3rd place and cleared a height of 1.30m.
Niamh Derbyshire saw action in the long jump and the 800 metres. She set new PB’s in both events, running 2:54.89s for 5th place in the 800 and jumping 3.55m to take 4th place in the long jump.
