Doncaster AC Open Meeting
Saturday 9th of May 2015
A cold and breezy day at the Keepmoat Stadium saw Kingston’s top long jumper Libby Wheeler finally surpass the English Schools Championships qualifying standard when recording a distance of 5.06m to win the under 15 girls event. Despite having had a superb indoor season with several personal best performances through the winter the standard had always proved elusive until the productive trip to South Yorkshire.
Also in good form at the same meeting was training partner Emily Dye who had an extremely busy few hours. Emily first took the bronze medal in the under 13’s 70m hurdles, marginally outside her best with a time of 13.08 sec. A 1.25m clearance in the high jump, equalling her personal best, brought silver in the high jump while another 2nd place came in the long jump. A consistent series of jumps was climaxed by a best effort of 4.09m to round off the South Hunsley pupil’s most successful day of her athletics career to date.
Pole vaulter Natalie Varga found her main event cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions but took the opportunity to put her sprinting talents to the test after working hard on these over the winter. Her disappointment at being unable to vault was tempered by a new personal best of 13.76 seconds in the 100m, her first sub-14 second clocking.
Leeds City Open Meeting

16 year old Chloe Sole continued her comeback after seeing her 2014 season ruined by a series of illnesses and injuries when placing 4th in a top class field in the 80m hurdles. Despite losing her unbeaten record for the season Chloe was well satisfied with her performance which saw her clock 12.9 seconds in less than ideal conditions, only 0.1 slower than her season’s best.
