Humberside County Championships

Costello Stadium, Hull – Saturday 23rd May 2015

The 41st annual championship meeting was held at the Costello Stadium on Saturday 23rd of May 2015. Upwards of 250 athletes from clubs in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire and North and North East Lincolnshire assembled in Hull to try and win a county title.

The competition got off to a chilly start, with a biting wind and cloudy skies. The sun came out in the afternoon and temperatures reached a balmy 17 degrees.

The most remarkable event of these championships was the under13 girls100 metres final, where all 8 finalists were from one club, Kingston upon Hull. As far as I can ascertain this is the first time it has occurred in the 41 years the championships have been held.

Results for our under 11’s, under 13 & 15’s (junior team) and under 17 & 20’s (youth team) are as follows.

TRACK EVENTS

The winner of both the 100 metres and 200 metres finals was Joe Cooper. He set a new PB of 11.1s to win the 100 and then went on to win the 200 in a time of 22.9s. Joe has worked tremendously hard with his coaches throughout the winter and got his just rewards here. A well deserved success.

The 400 metres final saw Daniel Gray dominate the race and run an excellent time of 49.4s, for victory and a gold medal.
