3rd/4th/5th July 2015

The 2015 British Championships were held at the home of England Athletics, Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

Entry to this event is by invitation only and the list of competitors was a who’s who of top class British athletics.

Seven athletes from Kingston got the call to compete in Birmingham.

Daniel Gray was the Under20’s 400 metres silver medallist at the Northern Championships in June and is the reigning Humberside Champion. In the heats in Birmingham he was drawn against the UK ranked no. 2 Conrad Williams. Dan ran a lifetime best of 47.23s to take 2nd place and progress to the semi final. Conrad Williams finished 3rd behind him.

In the semi he ran 48.03s which wasn’t enough to get him into the final, but his efforts at Birmingham gave a massive lift to everyone at the club.

Luke Giblin is the clubs number one male sprinter and he ran in the heats of the 100 and 200 metres races. In the 100 he ran a time of 10.99s and the 200 saw him clock 21.87s.

Megan Hoult is our leading female senior sprinter and she ran in the heats of the 100 metres at the Championships where she recorded a time of 12.34s.

Chelsea Walker is an Under 20 athlete, who represented England in the Welsh international earlier this year. Although Chelsea competes for City of York, she does her training at Costello with John Brant. She ran in the heats of the 100 and the 400 metres Hurdles. She clocked times of 14.98s for the 100 and 61.73 for the 400.

The Hull Hammer Squad was represented at the Championships by Alex Smith, James Bedford and Abbi Carter.

In the men’s final, former 3 times UK Champion Alex Smith took 5th place, with his best throw on the day going out to 67.92m.

James Bedford, former England Champion and the reigning Northern Champion was in 8th place with a throw of 66.16m.

After missing most of the 2013 season through injury, former four times English Schools Hammer Champion Abbi Carter, who now competes in the under 23’s, took 8th place in the senior women’s final. Her best throw on the day was one of 56.85m.
