Our junior team’s final league meeting of the 2015 track & field season, was held at the Costello Stadium on Saturday 18th of July.
Kingston’s young athletes faced opposition from the elite juniors from Gateshead Harriers, Chesterfield and District, Leeds City, Doncaster and Team North Cumbria.
At the start of the competition, Kingston stood in 3rd place on the league ladder with a total of 13 points. Two points behind the joint league leaders, Gateshead Harriers and Chesterfield and District, who both had 15 points.
The top two clubs would be promoted and the bottom team would face relegation. In order for Kingston to gain promotion, we would not only have to win this match but both Gateshead and Chesterfield would have to finish in 5th and 6th positions on the day. It was an unlikely scenario.
Our youngsters performed splendidly and many personal bests were set both on both the track and on the field. They were deserving of the highest praise.
We finished 3rd on the day and remained in third place on the final league table. Gateshead and Chesterfield earned promotion to Premier League 1 for the 2016 season and Doncaster were relegated to east Division 1.
The weather for the competition was bright with some glimpses of the sun and a temperature in the mid teens. The perennial Costello wind was present. No matter what the season it never seems go away.
Details of all our athlete’s performances are as follows.
Under 15 Boys
English Schools long jump champion Jack Perry started off his day in the 100 metres ‘A’ race, where he took 2nd place and ran a time of 12.6s. Lewis Gilbey also took 2nd place in the ‘B’ race with a run of 13.0s.
In the 200 metres Lewis won the ‘B’ race in a recorded a time of 26.1s and Jack took another 2nd place finish in the ‘A’ in 25.3s.
The 300 metres brought together Joseph Seed and Adam Coles. Joe took 5th place in the ‘A’ race and ran a time of 46.6s, whilst Adam who was running his first ever 300 metres race set a most impressive new PB of 41.8s, to win the ‘B’.
Matthew Elliott set a new personal best of 2:24.4s, to win the 800 metres race.
Our representatives in the 80 metres hurdles were Adam Coles and Sam Westhead. Adam took on the ‘A’ race, where his time of 13.1s earned him a 3rd place finish. Sam took 4th place in the ‘B’ with a run of 14.6s.
Out on the field, our two English Schools hammer finalists Will Robinson and Shaun Kerry were in action in the throwing circle. Shaun won the ‘A’ event with a new personal best throw of 42.59m, and Will won the ‘B’ with an excellent effort of 41.01m.
Will Robinson saw further action in the discus competition, where he threw a new PB of 28.95m, to take 2nd place in the ‘A’ event. Joseph Seed took part in his first discus competition and threw a new PB of 13.33m, for 5th place in the ‘B’.
Shaun Kerry returned to the fray, this time in the javelin competition. He threw his second new PB of the day, launching the javelin out to 36.96m, to take 2nd place.
Shaun Kerry and Will Robinson were back in tandem in the shot putt competition. Shaun finished 4th in the ‘A’ event with a throw of 10.94m, whilst Will took 2nd place in the ‘B’ with his second new PB of the day, with a throw measuring 9.50m.
The long jump competition saw Jack Perry in his main event and yet another jump in excess of 6 metres, this time 6.04m was enough to win the ‘A’. Adam Coles picked up another new PB in the ‘B’ competition with a jump of 5.32m to give us a double win in the long jump pit.
Matthew Elliott and Philip May were our contestants in the high jump. Matthew set a new PB in the ‘A’ event with a height clearance of 1.50, which gave him 3rd place. Philip also took 3rd place in the ‘B’ where he cleared1.35m.
Under 13 Boys
Ben Stutely took 3rd place in the 100 metres ‘A’ race with a run of 14.6s, and Harrison Haigh was placed 4th in the ‘B’ in a time of 15.4s.
The 200 metres brought together Harrison Haigh and Harvey Newton. Harrison ran in the ‘A’ race, where he finished 4th in a time of 31.6s. Harvey was also 4th in the ‘B’ and his time was one of 33.1s.
The 800 metres saw Sam Frankish run a new PB of 2:41.2s, for a 5th place finish in the ‘A’ race and Daniel Chadwick also registered a new PB of 2:48.1s to take 3rd place in the ‘B’.
The 1500 metres saw Harvey Newton take 3rd place in the ‘A’ race and also set a new PB, with a run of 5:19.9s. Robert Smith also claimed 3rd place in the ‘B’ and he too set a new PB of 6:03.5s.
Henry Cannell took 3rd place in the 75 metre hurdles ‘A’ race, where he ran a time of 14.8s. Daniel Chadwick ran a time of 17.5s, which gave him a 3rd place finish in the ‘B’.
Finlay Parker is in his debut season for the club and he was competing in only his second league meeting. He represented us in the javelin competition (his first one) where he threw 11.37m, to earn his team precious points.
In the shot putt ‘A’ competition Fabian Vidal threw a new PB of 5.88m, for a 5th place finish, and Robert Smith also set a new PB of 4.93m in the ‘B’ to take 4th place.
Ben Stutely and Fabian Vidal represented us in the long jump. In the ‘A’ event Ben threw a new PB of 4.42m, to take 2nd place, and in the ‘B’ Fabians throw of 4.08m, earned him 3rd place.
In the high jump William Buckle’s new PB of 1.30m, gave him 3rd place in the ‘A’ event, and Divaldo Agostinho’s clearance of 1.15m, earned him 2nd place in the ‘B’.
Under 15 Girls
Northern indoor champion and English Schools semi finalist, Hannah Kynman, asserted her authority over the field with victories in both the sprint races. In the 100 metres ‘A’ race she clocked a time of 13.0s and in the 200 ‘A’ her time of 27.5s was almost 2 seconds faster than the runner up.
In the 100 metres ‘B’ race Jennifer Hopkinson took 3rd place with a recorded time of 14.1s. The 200 metres ‘B’ saw Savannah Beal take 4th place with a run of 30.0s.
Our representatives in the 300 metres were Abbie Haigh and Olivia Morton. Abbie finished 5th in the ‘A’ race with a run of 49.1s, and Olivia ran a season’s best time of 48.2s, for 4th place in the ‘B’.
The 800 metres saw Daisy Evans run a time of 2:40.0s, for 5th place in the ‘A’ race and Abbie Haigh take 4th place in the ‘B’ with a time of 2:47.7s.
The 75 metre hurdles saw training partners Venus Morgan and Paige Mathers in tandem. Venus won the ‘A’ race, running a time of 12.3s, and Paige took 2nd place in the ‘B’ with a time of 13.3s.
Beth Shaw threw a new PB of 19.13m, in the discus ‘A’ event, for a 4th place finish, and in the ‘B’ Harriet Cannell also took 4th place with a throw of 17.45m.
Beth Shaw was back in action in the hammer ‘A’ event, where she threw 26.66m for 3rd place. In the ‘B’ event, and in her final competition for Kingston was Adriana Arroyo, who threw a new PB of 17.95m, for 3rd place. Adriana is returning home to Mexico with her family, all of whom will be missed by the many friends they made during their stay in Hull.
The javelin competition saw Harriet Cannell take 2nd place in the ‘A’ event with a throw of 28.62m. Paige Mathers was the winner of the ‘B’ where she threw a new PB of 26.88m.
The shot putt competition paired together Beth Shaw in the ‘A’ and Abbie Haigh in the ‘B’. Beth threw a new PB of 7.21m, for 5th place and Abbie 5.94 for 4th place.
Both Venus Morgan and Savannah Beal, were engaged in extremely close contests in the long jump. Venus jumped 4.98m, for a second place finish in the ‘A’ event and Savannah took 3rd place in the ‘B’ with a leap of 4.37m, which was a new PB.
In the high jump Venus Morgan took 4th place in the ‘A’ competition with a clearance of 1.55m, and Paige Mathers was placed 2nd in the ‘B’ with 1.35m.
Under 13 Girls
In the 75 metres sprint race Sophie Reed took 4th place in the ‘A’ race in a time of 11.4s, and Katie Smith was in 2nd place in the ‘B’ with a new PB of 11.1s.
The 150 metres sprint saw Katie Smith running the ‘A’ race and picking up another 2nd place in 22.7s. Emily Dye took 2nd place in the ‘B’ running a new PB of 23.3s.
On to middle distance, where in the ‘A’ race Jodie Martin ran a new PB of 2:36.8s for 2nd place. In the ‘B’ Emilia Russell also took 2nd place and also ran a new PB of 2:46.9s.
In the 1200 metres Evie Watson ran 4:27.5s, for 4th place in the ‘A’ race and Katy McCabe took 2nd place in the ‘B’ where her run of 4:31.1s was a new PB.
In the 70 metres hurdles race Ciara Andrews took 2nd place in the ‘A’ in 12.2s. Katie Smith was the winner of the ‘B’, running a time of 12.6s.
The javelin competition saw a club and a league debut by one of our newest recruits, 12 year old Indigo Atkin. She launched the javelin out to 19.90m, to take 2nd place in the ‘A’ and set herself a personal best performance. In the ‘B’ Sophie Reed took 3rd place with a throw of 13.29m.
In the shot putt Ciara Andrews threw a new PB of 7.87m, to take 5th place in the ‘A’. Faye Oliver took 4th place in the ‘B’ with a throw of 6.77m.
Evie Watson and Emily Dye were our representatives in the long jump competition. Evie set a new PB of 4.17m in the ‘A’ to take 3rd place and Emily finished 2nd in the ‘B’ with a jump of 3.98m.
Alanah Thoresby was the winner of the high jump ‘A’ competition with a clearance of 1.38m, which was a new PB and Rosie Shepherd took 2nd place in the ‘B’, clearing a height of 1.15m.
RELAY RESULTS
4 x 100 metres – Under 15 Boys
Kingston’s team of Lewis Gilbey, Philip May, Matthew Elliott and Adam Coles finished in 2nd place and recorded a time of 51.3s.
4 x 300 metres – Under 15 Boys
Matthew Elliott, Joseph Seed, Sam Westhead and Adam Coles, finished in 3rd place in a time of 2:56.5s.
4 x 300 metres – Under 15 Girls
The Quartet of Abbie Haigh, Daisy Evans, Olivia Morton and Savannah Beal, finished in 4th place with a time of 3:18.2s.
4 x 100 metres – Under 13 Boys
Harrison Haigh, Finlay Parker, Divaldo Agostinho and Ben Stutely, finished in 4th place, running a time of 59.4s.
4 x 100 metres – Under 13 Girls
The Kingston foursome of Katie Smith, Sophie Reed, Emily Dye and Jodie Martin, took 2nd place and ran a season’s best time of 56.8s.
