Three of Kingston’s senior athletes competed at the City of York Open Meeting on Saturday 25th of September 2015.

 

Clare Blunt is a multi eventer and is Kingston’s top ranked pole vaulter. She is also a much valued member of our senior team, which competes in division one of the Northern League. She is a former Northern Pole Vault Champion, and has won the Yorkshire County title for the last four consecutive years.

At the York meeting Clare competed in the 100 metres sprint race and of course in the pole vault. She set new personal best performances in both of the events.

She was the winner of the pole vault, making a lifetime best clearance at 3.85m.

Clare ran the 100 metres sprint in a time of 12.7s for her second new PB of the day.

 

Middle distance and cross country specialist Oliver Newton ran in both the 800 and 1500 metres events. He has won medals both on the track and cross country in Humberside County Championship events. He competes for his University at Loughborough and is also another key member of Kingston’s senior league team.

Oliver won the 800 metres, and covered the two lap race in a time of 2:06.0s.

He took 3rd place in the 1500 metres race and he recorded a time of 4:15.1s.

 

John Twiddle is a V45 athlete and he is the reigning British Masters throws pentathlon champion. So far in the 2015 track & field season he has increased his gold medal haul, with shot putt victories in both the Northern Veterans Championship’s and the Humberside Championships.

At York John competed in four throwing events, shot putt, discus, hammer and javelin.

He won both the shot and the discus competitions, managing 11.98m, in the shot, and throwing 35.09m in the discus, which represented his best discus performance as a V45 athlete.

He took 3rd place in the hammer, with a throw of 40.04m, and 5th in the javelin with a distance of 29.93m.
