Inter Counties Track & Field Championships
Dorothy Hyman Stadium – Cudworth
Saturday 12th September 2015
The annual Inter Counties Championships for junior athletes, aged under 13 years and under 15 years, were held at the Dorothy Hyman Stadium in Cudworth on Saturday 12th of September.
Teams representing Derbyshire, Humberside, Leicester and Rutland, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and Warwickshire took part in the competition.
Eighteen of Kingston’s junior athletes were selected to represent Humberside at Cudworth. There were some outstanding individual performances from them, but overall it was a day of struggle for the team, which finished in 6th place overall with a total of 373 points.
The 2015 Champions were Leicester and Rutland with a total of 487 points.
Performance details for all of Kingston’s athletes are as follows.
Under 15 Girls
Multi-eventer Venus Williams represented the team in three disciplines. She took 2nd place in the 75 metres hurdles race, which she ran in 12.1s, she took another 2nd place in the high jump with a clearance at 1.55m, and she won the long jump ‘B’ event with a leap of 4.57m.
Team mate Libby Wheeler was the winner of the long jump ‘A’ event with a great effort of 5.11m.
Harriet Cannell and Rebecca Chivers both competed in the javelin throw. Harriet took 2nd place in the ‘A’ event, where she threw a new PB of 30.31m, and Rebecca took 3rd place in the ‘B’ and she also threw a new PB of 23.28m.
Lucy Savery competed in the 800 metres ‘B’ race, where her run of 2:39.1s, gave her a 6th place finish.
Jennifer Hopkinson represented the team in the 100 metres sprint race, where she ran a time of 13.8s for 7th place.
Jennifer was also a member of the under 15 girls 4 x 200 metres relay race, in company with Alicia Gregory and Hannah Moat of Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes Ellie Jones. The girls took 6th place in 1:57.7s.
Under 15 Boys
The Northern hammer champion, Shaun Kerry, was in action in the shot putt and javelin competitions. He won both of the events, putting in a throw of 11.07m, to win the shot, and launching the javelin out to 34.58m, to claim his second victory of the day at the championships.
The English School’s long jump champion, Jack Perry, was the winner of the long jump competition, once again jumping in excess of 6 metres, this time he registered a leap of 6.10m. He also took 4th place in the 100 metres race, which he ran in 12.1s.
Jack was also a member of the under 15 boys medley relay team, which sees the first runner covering 100 metres, the second 200, the third 300 and the final runner 400 metres. The team took 3rd place and ran a time of 2:14.9s.
Adam Coles was the team representative in the 80 metres hurdles race, where he took 4th place and ran a time of 12.3s.
Matthew Elliott competed in the 1500 metres race, which he ran in a time of 4:58.0, for a 6th place finish.
Under 13 Girls
Katie Smith was in action in both the 70 metres hurdles race and the 100 metres ‘A’ race. She took 4th place in the hurdles, running a time of 12.8s, and she was placed 6th in the 100 metres in 14.7s.
Evie Watson ran in the 100 metres ‘B’ race, where she finished 7th and recorded a time of 15.0s. She also competed in the long jump event, where she took 4th place with a jump of 4.04m.
Jodie Martin was the team representative in the 800 metres race, and she ran a good race for 4th place, setting a new PB of 2:33.3s.
All 3 girls Katie, Evie and Jodie, together with Grimsby’s Rowan Swinburn, formed the under 13 girls 4 x 100 metres relay team, where they took 4th place and ran a time of 57.3s.
Ciara Andrews and Faye Oliver competed in both of the shot events, in which they both set new PB’s. Ciara threw a new PB of 8.01m, to take 4th place in the ‘A’ event, whilst Faye’s new PB of 7.83m, earned her a 3rd place finish in the ‘B’ event.
Alanah Thoresby was the team’s high jump representative, and her clearance at a height of 1.30m, earned her a 4th place finish.
Under 13 Boys
Luke Carr competed in the 200 metres race, where he took 5th place, running a time of 29.6s.
Connor Pickering took 3rd place in the shot competition, with a throw of 7.61m.
Ben Stutely took 2nd place in the long jump competition, with a leap of 4.40m.
Ben was also in action in company with Adam Simms of Doncaster and Liam Sutton and Ryan Lark of Grimsby, in the under13 boys 4 x 100 metres relay. The boys ran a time of 59.0s, for a 6th place finish.
