Charlotte Paterson – Athlete Profile
Charlotte Paterson is 17 years of age and she competes in the under 20 age category. She is one of Kingston upon Hull Athletic Clubs outstanding youth athletes.
She has just come off the back of a magnificent 2015 track and field season, which has seen her win her first International vest, representing England at the ‘Welsh Indoor International’ in Cardiff, where she picked up the gold medal in the 60 metre race.
In the outdoor season she was the 100 metre gold medallist at the biggest and most prestigious youth competition on the athletic calendar. The English Schools Championships, which were held in 2015 at the International Stadium in Gateshead.
At the Northern Championships, at Sport City in Manchester, Charlotte completed the sprint double, winning both the 100 and 200 metres gold medals. This was her second sprint double of the 2015 season, having earlier won both the100 and 200 gold’s at the Humberside County Championships.
Charlotte finished the 2015 season UK ranked no. 8 at 100 metres, and was UK 13 at 200.
Charlotte’s athletic journey began at the age of 10, back in April of 2008, when she made her debut for the club at the annual ‘Kingston Spring Open Meeting’, where she finished in 4th place in the under 11 girls 150 metre race.
Her first full competitive season was in 2009 as an under 13 athlete. She reached her first major final, finishing 7th in the 80 metre race at the Yorkshire and Humberside County Championships at the Don Valley Stadium. She also won her first county vest at the Inter Counties Championships at Nuneaton, where she competed in the long jump.
The 2010 season saw further progress made. She took the long jump gold medal at the Yorkshire and Humberside Championships and collected a silver medal in the 80 metres. Gold medals in both the 100 and 200 metres were to follow at that year’s Humberside Schools Championships, with long jump gold and 200 metre silver at the English Schools Cup Final at Gateshead.
2011 saw her move up to the under 15 age category. Charlotte successfully defended both her 100 and 200 metre Humberside School’s titles, and she took silver medals at 100 and 200 metres and long jump at the Humberside County Championships. She was back on the gold trail, up at Gateshead at The English Schools Cup Final, where she won the 200 metres and the long jump competitions.
In the 2012 season she won 100 and 200 metre gold medals at the Humberside County Championships, and once again retained her Humberside Schools titles. She made her debut appearance at the English Schools Championships at Gateshead, where she ran in the heats of the 200 metres. She then won a 200 metre silver medal and a 100 metre bronze, along with her 4th County vest, at the Inter Counties Championships in Grantham.
2013 brought a move up to the under 17’s, she made her second appearance at the English Schools Championships, this time at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, where she reached the semi final stage. The 100 and 200 metre titles were once again retained at the Humberside Schools Championships and this year she also won the triple jump title for good measure. At the Northern Championships in Liverpool she won the 300 metres bronze medal and was placed 4th in the 100 metres final.
The 2014 season saw Charlotte collect the 100 metres silver medal at the English Schools Championships in Birmingham, and she also took the silver medal at the UK School Games at Sport City in Manchester. Charlotte was also the 60 metres Northern indoor champion, and the 100 metres Northern outdoor champion. A 6th County vest was collected at the Inter Counties Championships in Derby, where she won the silver in the 100 metres.
Charlotte Paterson has just completed her 8th competitive season with Kingston upon Hull Athletic Club, her most successful season so far. After a short break to re charge her batteries, she is back at the track in full on conditioning and strengthening mode, in preparation for the 2016 indoor season. She is a good trainer and a hard worker and she is well aware that if she wants to push on and achieve her full potential, then a lot more hard work lies ahead.
When asked what she hoped the 2016 season may hold in store for her, she firstly hoped “To have a good pre-season, stay injury free and set new PB’s”.
She also expressed her desire “To gain County selection, so I can defend my championship title at English Schools. To defend my Northern title, and to win the Humberside titles again”
Did she have International ambitions “I would love to gain England selection again for the Welsh international, and my ultimate aim is to win my Great Britain kit”
Charlotte also expressed a wish to “Run abroad, in good conditions, in warm weather”
