Dominic Singh – Athlete Profile

 

Dominic Singh is 17 years old, he is a sprinter who made his debut appearance for Kingston upon Hull Athletic Club, at the age of 11, at the clubs ‘Spring Open’ meeting in April of 2010. He won the 80 metre and 150 metre sprint races at that first competition, and backed that up with a string of solid performances in the clubs league fixtures during his first competitive season. He won his first championship medals, taking gold in both the 100 and 200 metres at the Humberside Schools Championships. He made the 100 metre final at the Yorkshire and Humberside Championships at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield, where he finished in 6th place. He also won his first County vest, running in the 100 and 200 metre races at Leicester.

His second season in 2011 saw him represent the club in the Young Athletes League and the Humberside track & field league meetings. He added three more gold medals to his collection, with victories in the 100 and 200 metres at the Humberside County Championships. The third came with his victory in the 100 metres at the Inter County Championships in Nottingham.

2012 saw Dominic move up an age group to the under 15’s. The year began with him making his debut at the Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield, where he ran in the heats of the 60 metres. He successfully defended both his 100 and 200 metre titles at the Humberside County Championships and took 200 metre gold and 100 metre silver at the Humberside Schools Championships. He collected his 3rd County vest at the Inter Counties Championships in Wigan, where he competed in both the 100 and 200 metre finals.

He enjoyed a great start to 2013, winning the silver medal in the 60 metres at the Northern indoor Championships at Sheffield. He won gold medals in the 100 and 200 finals at the Humberside County Championships, for the 3rd consecutive year, and took two more golds, in the 100 and 200 metre finals at the Humberside Schools Championships. He qualified to compete at the English Schools Championships, and made his debut at the Alexander Stadium, in Birmingham where he ran the heats of the 100 metres. At the Northern Track & Field Championships, in Liverpool, he did the sprint double, taking 100 and 200 metre gold medals.

2014 saw a move up to the under 17 age group, and his season began again in January, at the Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield, where he collected the bronze medal in the 60 metre final. Once again he won gold medals at both 100 and 200 metres at the Humberside County Championships, and repeated the feat at the Humberside Schools Championships. He qualified for his second English Schools Championships, held once again at England Athletics HQ in Birmingham. This year he reached the semi final stage of the 200metres Competition.

He earned County representation again, and he won a bronze medal in the 100 metres at the Inter Counties match, which was held in Derby. At the Northern track & field Championships in Wigan he won silver medals at both the 100 and 200 metres. This year also saw Dominic, in addition to his duties with Kingston Youth team, he made his debut for the clubs Senior League team, who compete in North of England Division One, where he gave a very good account of himself.

2015 saw him win his 5th consecutive sprint double at the Humberside County Championships and once again he repeated the feat, with two further gold medals at the Humberside Schools Championships. He picked up another gold medal in the 100 metres at the East Riding Schools Championships. He competed out of his age group at the Northern under 20 Track & Field Championships, at Sport City in Manchester, where he won the 200 metre bronze medal. English Schools selection was earned once more and this year up at Gateshead, Dominic made the 200 metre final where he finished in 7th place. At the Northern (under 17) Championships in Middlesbrough, he won gold in the 200 metres and took the silver in the 100. He journeyed south to Bedford to compete in the England Championships. He qualified for the 200 metre final, where he finished in 6th place. His final outing of the track and field season took him once more to Sport City in Manchester, where he was selected to represent North East England at the UK School Games. Dominic ran in the 100 metre final, where he finished 6th.

His rankings for the 2015 season put him number 2 in Yorkshire in both the 100 and 200 metres, and number 10 in both the UK and England at 200 metres.

Dominic’s ambitions for the 2016 season are:-

“To lower my PB’s, I want to go under 22 seconds for the 200 metres”

“I want to get ‘English Schools’ selection again”

“Defend all of my Humberside titles”

“To win a medal at the Northerns”
