Cross Country Cup – National Final

The 2015 ESAA Cross Country Cup Final was staged at the Beauchamp Middle School in Bedford, on Saturday 5th of December 2015.

The South Hunsley Junior boy’s team were among the teams of runners from all parts of England, who won the right to compete at Bedford, having qualified through their local final at Longcroft School in Beverley, onto the regional final in Chesterfield, and finally to the national final itself, in Bedford.

The team contained two Kingston athletes, Finlay Pickering and Matthew  Lyons and Charlie Weeks of Hull Achilles AC.

The junior boy’s event took place over a 2.8 kilometre course and there were 142 contestants in the race, who represented the best young cross country runners in England.

Finlay Pickering is an outstanding young runner, who has been with the club for the last fourteen months. He backed up his 2nd place finish at the British Athletics cross challenge at Liverpool on the 28th of November, with a superb 3rd place finish, just seven days later, at Bedford, where he covered the course in a time of 9:20s.

Another Kingston athlete Matthew Lyons was also one of the team’s runners and he came home in the middle positions, running a time of 10.41s.

A former Kingston athlete, Charlie Weeks, who now runs for the Hull Achilles Club, crossed the finishing line in 50th position. He completed the course in a time of 10:17s.

The junior boys race was contested by twenty four teams and the South Hunsley team finished in 11th place.

25 teams contested the intermediate girls race, which was run over a 2.8 kilometre course, and had a field of 143 runners. 14 years old Kingston athlete, Becky Chivers, was a member of the Hymers College team, running in the final. She covered the course in a time of 11:54s, and she finished the race in the middle positions.

The Hymers College girls team finished in 25th place.
