Olivia Young – Athlete Profile
Olivia Young is 16 years of age, and she made her debut for Kingston, at the age of 11, at the club’s annual ‘Spring Open’ meeting, in April of 2010. During that first season she represented the club in league matches in both the Humberside League and the Humberside track & field league.
The 2011 track & field season saw Olivia enter for her first championship meeting, the Humberside County Championships , which were held at the Costello Stadium in Hull. She competed there in three events, both the 100 and 200 metre sprints and the long jump, where she won the bronze medals in all three competitions.
She was kept busy throughout that season, competing in all of the clubs league meetings in the Young Athletes League, and donning the Kingston vest at the York summer league, and at Open meetings.
The 2012 season saw Olivia take part in just one competition, winning the 100 metres silver medal, at that year’s Humber Games. She wanted a break from athletics at this point, which saw her stop training and leave the club.
She got the urge to run again, and in early 2015 she returned to the clubs pre-season training sessions, in preparation for the new track and field season, which would commence in April. This saw Olivia come under the supervision of sprint coach Paul Curtis, whose training group contains some very promising young sprinters.
Olivia’s first competitive run out was at Kingston’s 2015 ‘Spring Open’, at their Costello home, where she ran in both the 100 and 200 metre races.
Olivia was called into the Kingston Youth team, on the recommendation of her coach, where she competed in the 100 metres and the long jump, in all of the team’s league meetings. In fact she became an integral part of a team that not only gained promotion but went through the 2015 track and field season unbeaten.
Since the end of the 2015 track & field season, Olivia has been concentrating on strength and conditioning, in preparation for the 2016 indoor and outdoor seasons.
Olivia has a good attitude and she is keen to learn, she enjoyed being back in competition this year, and is looking forward to more of the same when the 2016 season gets under way. It was great to see her back on the track, and long may that continue.
Her ambitions for 2016 are:-
“To get down to 13.0 seconds or under in the 100 metres”
“I would like to train for the 200 metres, and be competitive in the event”
“I hope to compete for the team in the 100 and 200 metres and the long jump”
