Harry Powell – Representative call Up

Kingston’s 18 year old middle distance and distance runner Harry Powell has been selected to represent Northern Athletics at the IAAF Cross Country Challenge meeting, which will be held at the Greenmount Campus, Antrim, Northern Ireland, on Saturday 16th of January 2016.

He will be competing in the under 20 men’s championships race, which will be held over a distance of 5600 metres.

This is a thoroughly deserved reward for an athlete who has put in some quite superb performances, at cross country events throughout 2015.

He began his 2015 campaign on the 4th of January, at Weelsby Woods, in Grimsby, where he was crowned the Humberside Champion. Twenty days later, at Pontefract Racecourse, on a course which resembled a swamp, he finished in a magnificent 13th place at the Northern Cross Country Championships. On the 1st of March he was on the south bank of the Humber again, this time winning the under 20’s race at the Barton and district open meeting.

These performances saw him gain county recognition, at the Inter County Championships in Birmingham, an event that also included the World Trials, and British Athletics Cross Challenge. Another top drawer performance from Harry, saw him finish 34th in a high quality field.

During the track and field season he competed with distinction in the league meetings for both the Kingston Youth team and the clubs senior team.

On the 31st of October he was back in cross country action at the English National Relay Championships, at Berry Hill Park, in Mansfield, putting in another excellent effort, which earned him a 26th place finish. The 28th of November took him over to Liverpool for a meeting which incorporated the British Cross Challenge and European Trials. He picked up a 31st place finish, in an exceptionally strong field.

Harry will travel over to Liverpool on the day before the meeting, and will journey over to Ireland by plane. Everyone at Kingston wishes Harry well, and we are very proud of him. He will give it everything he has got, he always does.
