The 41st Humberside cross country championships were staged at Quibell Park in Scunthorpe on Sunday the 10th of January. There was a healthy turn-out of athletes from the Kingston youth and junior teams and they enjoyed a successful day on the south side of the river.
They brought home two individual gold medals, two team gold medals and and two individual silver medals.
The championship races were held across all age ranges, starting with the under 11’s group, through the 13’s, 15’s, 17’s and 20’s and up into the senior and veteran categories. The course provided good going and it was a dry day with sunny spells.
The reigning senior men’s Humberside cross country champion, Gregan Clarkson, made a successful defence of his title at the 2016 championship meeting, which was held in Quibell Park in Scunthorpe, on Sunday 10th of January.
He covered the 12 kilometre course, running a time of 44:38s, to take the gold medal and retain his championship for another year.
Gregan is Kingston’s most prolific competitor, and this meeting was his fourth competitive outing of 2016.
Under 20 Men – 8 kilometre race
The 2015 champion Harry Powell, was hoping to defend his title and he was accompanied on the start line by Josh Taylor-Brown, one of his fellow training group members.
Harry successfully defended his championship title, covering the course in a time of 26:37s, to win the gold medal.
Josh took 4th place and he crossed the finishing line in a recorded time of 29:08s.
Under 17 Men – 6.5 kilometre race
Jack Brothwell was Kingston’s representative in the under 17 race, and he was hoping to go one better than he did at the 2015 championships, where he was the silver medallist.
Jack collected the gold medal this time, running the course in a time of 24:42s, and finishing 37 seconds ahead of the second placed athlete.
Under 13 Boys – 2.7 kilometre race
Adam Fox, Thomas Smales and Alex Chivers, represented the club in the under 13 boys race.
Adam took a 4th place finish, with a course time of 10:44s, and he was followed over the line in 5th place by team-mate Thomas Smales, whose recorded time was 10:55s. Alex covered the course in 13:35s, finishing in 17th place.
The three boys efforts saw them awarded the under 13 boys team gold medals.
Under 17 Women – 5 kilometre race
Natalie Bell and Martha Savage were in action in the under 17 women’s race, both of the girls had previous experience at these championships, with Natalie winning the silver medal last year.
Both of them put in good performances, with Natalie once again taking the silver, running a time of 23:46s, and Martha taking 6th place and recording a time of 25:31s.
Under 15 Women – 4.5 kilometre race
Becky Chivers was the Kingston representative in the under 15 women’s race, where she finished the course in a time of 21:14s, crossing the finish line in 5th place.
Under 13 Girls – 2.7 kilometre race
A team of 5 girls competed for Kingston in the under 13 girls race.
Jodie Martin ran an excellent race, which saw her finish in 2nd place, and pick up a well deserved silver medal. She covered the course in a time of 11:03s.
Katy McCabe crossed the finish line in 6th position, and her recorded time was 11:30s.
Lucy Cresswell picked up a 10th place finish, and she returned a time of 13:15s.
The first three girls were awarded with gold medals.
Lauren McClean finished in 13th position and she completed the course in a time of 13:50s.
Esther Savage crossed the finishing line in 14th place, just behind Lauren, and she ran a time of 13:54s.
The girls were all delighted to equal the under13 boys achievement and collect the team gold medal.
