Kingston’s Matthew Elvidge took part in his first combined events competition, at the National Indoor Championships, staged at the English Institute of Sports stadium in Sheffield.

His first outing as a combined eventer saw him taking on a Heptathlon competition at the England indoor Championships.
On Saturday’s first day his events were the 60 metre sprint, 60 metre hurdles, long jump and shot putt.

In the 60 metre hurdles race, he claimed a 6th place finish and ran another new PB of 11.99s.
The high jump is not Matt’s strongest event, but he produced a season’s best performance, with a clearance at a height of 1.60m.
The long jump is another of his strong events, and a season’s best effort of 6.34m, gave him 1st place.
The shot putt saw him pull out another personal best performance, registering a throw of 6.68m.
The final two events that awaited him on Sundays second day of competition, were the 1000 metres race and the pole vault.
The 1000 metres saw him take 8th place in the race and record another new PB of 3:24.64s.
In the pole vault competition he unfortunately failed to make a clearance and subsequently did not collect any event points.
Matt amassed a total of 2728 points, which gave him a new PB, and put him in 27th place in the competition.
