Hannah Kynman – Athlete Profile

Hannah Kynman is the leading under 15 girl sprinter at Kingston upon Hull Athletic Club. The 2015 track and field season was her last competitive year at that age range. She will turn 15 in February 2016, and will compete as a first year under17, in the forthcoming athletics season.

She enjoyed a successful campaign in 2015, winning 200 metre gold and 100 metre silver medals at the Northern indoor championships, and 100 metres silver at the Northern track & field championships. Hannah was also a 100 metre semi-finalist at the English Schools Championships. On the local scene she did the sprint double at all three championship meetings, Humberside County, East Riding Schools and Humberside Schools. She suffered with niggling back and shoulder problems during the season, which at times impaired her performances, and interfered with her training regime. Hannah is a great competitor, one of the very best in Northern England, and we all wish for an injury free 2016, and hopefully, further successes to come.

Hannah joined Kingston’s junior training group, as a 9 year old in the 2010 season, and she made her club debut in September of that year, at the Grimsby Open Meeting, where she ran in the 80 metres and 150 metres sprint races.

2011 was the first full competitive season for the now 10 year old Hannah. At May’s track & field County Championships, she gave everyone a glimpse of the talent she possessed, winning her first medals in her club vest. She did the sprint double, picking up gold medals in both the 80 metres and 150 metres races. Hannah also ran in the 600 metres final where she was the bronze medallist. She was also kept busy in the 2011 season, representing the club in the Humberside League fixtures, as well as competing in the York Summer League series.

2012 turned out to be a most frustrating year for Hannah, as she was beset by a persistent knee problem, which refused to clear up. She missed the entire indoor season, and her first outing of 2012 was at ‘Kingston’s Spring Open’ in April, at the beginning of the track & field season. She was unable to defend her Humberside sprint titles and missed out on all that season’s championship events. Hannah competed for the club in two Young Athletes League matches, one in May and the second in June which, proved to be her last competitive outing of the year.

2013 saw Hannah back in harness and she completed a full season of competition, with the highlights being another sprint double at the County track & field Championships, taking the gold medals in the 100 and 200 metres races, she was also a competitor in the long jump final, where she took 5th place. Hannah represented the club in all of the National Youth Development League fixtures, and was kept busy through the spring and summer in the Humberside league and the York summer league meetings. She won her first County vest at the Inter County Championships at Derby, where she represented the team in the 100 and 200 metres races, winning bronze in both, and took 4th place in the shot competition.

More success was to follow in 2014. Her competitive year began with her debut at the Northern Indoor Championships, at the E.I.S. Stadium in Sheffield, where she ran in the semi finals of both the 60 metres and the 200 metres. At the County track & field Championships in May she won the 200 metres silver medal and the 100 metres bronze. The Humberside Schools Championships in June saw her win 200 metres gold and 100 metres silver. The month of July saw Hannah make her debut at the biggest competition in the country, at the English Schools Championships at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium, where she represented her county in the heats of the 200 metres. August took her to Wigan and the Northern track & field championships, where she brought home the 200 metres bronze medal. In the same month she represented her county again, at the Inter County Championships, which were held in Derby, and she won bronze in both the 100 and the 200 metres. On the last day of August Hannah won 100 metre and 200 metre gold medals at the Hull International Athletics Festival Meeting, staged on her home track at the Costello Stadium.

Hannah’s hopes for the 2016 season are:-

“I would love to earn ‘English Schools’ selection and get to the semi finals again”

“I want to win a medal at the Northern’s”

“Try to win the county title again, as well as the Humberside and the East Riding Schools”

“It’s my first year at under17 and I want to compete in the league matches”
