Humberside Schools Cross Country Championships
The 2016 Humberside Schools cross country championships were staged at Longcroft School in Beverley on Saturday the 6th of February. A total of 232 runners took part in the races which covered the age categories from under 13’s up to under 20 year olds. All the contestants represented their individual School areas, which were Hull Schools, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire Schools.
Eighteen of Kingston’s junior and youth team athletes ran at the Championship meeting, and their performance details are as follows.
Under 13 Boys
Adam Fox has been training with the club for seven months, and made his debut at the Northern Counties relay championships in Sheffield last October. He was a 4th place finisher at Januarys Humberside County cross country championships.
He was the silver medallist at the schools event and covered the course in a time of 9:01s.
Thomas Smales joined Kingston on the same day as Adam, and they also made their club debuts together at the relay championships. He was the 5th place finisher at January’s Humberside championships.
Thomas completed the Longcroft course in a time of 9:08s, and crossed the finish line in 5th place.
Will Buckle joined our junior training group in late 2014 and made his club debut the following April at a Humberside league meeting in Grimsby.
This meeting was Will’s first outing of 2016 and he collected a 7th place finish, running a time of 9:16s.
Sam Frankish made his club debut in May of 2015 in a Humberside league meeting at his home track at Costello.
This was Sam’s first run out of this year and he finished the race in 11th place, running a time of 9:30s.
Daniel Chadwick’s first appearance in the Kingston vest could not have been more memorable, two days after Christmas 2014 in a cross country meeting at Sheffield in 8 inches of snow, and a bronze medal to take home as well.
Daniel crossed the finishing line at this meeting in 15th place and he ran a time of 9:41s.
Under 15 Girls
Jodie Martin is now in her third year as a Kingston athlete, and she was the silver medallist at this January’s Humberside County cross country championships, in Scunthorpe.
She collected another silver medal at Longcroft, where she completed the course in a time of 13:02s.
This meeting was Becky Chivers fourth competitive outing of 2016 the first had been at Januarys County cross country championships where she had taken 5th place, and the day after this meeting she was in Sheffield for the Northern Indoor Championships.
Becky crossed the finishing line at Longcroft in a time of 14:18s to take a 10th place finish.
Katy McCabe is in her second season at the club and this meeting was her second outing of 2016, the first being the County cross country championships where she took 6th place.
She took 12th place in the schools championships and covered the course in a time of 14:21s.
2016 will be Abbie Haigh’s fifth competitive year at Kingston. She was the 800 metres silver medallist at both last year’s Humberside Schools and East Riding Schools track & field championships and is an experienced competitor in the clubs league meetings.
Abbie got her 2016 campaign up and running at the Longcroft meeting, with a run of 14:54s, for a 22nd place finish.
Evie Watson is at home as a sprinter and in middle distance events and in addition is the reigning long jump County champion.
This was her first competitive outing of 2016 and she crossed the finishing line in 29th place, running a time of 15:06s.
Under 15 Boys
Harvey Newton had his first run out of 2016 at this schools meeting, and he completed the course in a time of 16:33s, crossing the finish line in 9th place
Under 17 girls
Charlotte Dalton is a triathlete, distance and middle distance runner, and was the 1500 metres silver medallist at last year’s East Riding Schools track & field Championships.
She put in a strong performance at this meeting to once more get amongst the medals, winning the silver, and recording a time of 16:52s.
It was a first appearance of the year for Connie Mounsey at this meeting and she completed the course in a time of 19:21s, crossing the line in 12th place
Martha Savage was the 800 metres bronze medallist at last year’s track & field county championships, and she took 6th place at this Januarys County cross country championships.
In this her second competition of 2016 Martha finished in 14th position and ran a time 19:33s.
Under 20 Men
Kingston athletes took 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th places in the under 20 men’s race.
Shaun Smith the 2015 County cross country champion, and track & field County 1500 metres champion was the first of the Kingston athletes to cross the finish line, winning the silver medal, and covering the course in a time of 20:50s.
The bronze medallist was Baldvin Magnusson, who over the last three months has put in some mighty impressive cross country runs. This was another excellent effort by Baldvin who covered the course in a time of 21:05s.
Just behind him in 4th place was his friend and training partner, who also happens to be the recently crowned 2016 County cross country champion Jack Brothwell, who crossed the finish line in a time of 21:20s.
Next to cross the finish line was Jonny Beharrell to claim 5th place, and his recorded time was 21:53s.
Can’t wait to see the lads back on the track in a few weeks time especially Jonny who missed so much competition last year.
