BUCS Indoor Athletics Championships
19/20/21st February 2016
Two Kingston athletes were in competition at the British Universities and Colleges indoor athletics championships, which were staged at the English Institute of Sports stadium in Sheffield.
Alfie Salsby, fresh from his top class performance at the recent BUCS cross country championships at Gloucester, was in action on the boards in the 3000 metres race, running in the 3rd of the days heats he put in a seasons best performance of 9:24.10s, to take 6th place.
The Hull University student has been with Kingston for just a few months and has put in some impressive displays on the cross country circuit, which he has now backed up with a solid outing indoors.
In contrast Matthew Elvidge made his Kingston debut nine years ago, and 2016 is his 10th competitive season with the club. Matt has always been an all round athlete and has been a stalwart of the clubs junior, youth and senior teams throughout all of those years.
He is studying at Sheffield Hallam University and he will be competing as a decathlete in the 2016 track & field season. He was in action at these indoor championships in the long jump competition, which is one of one of his ten decathlon events.
His best jump on the day was one of 5.89m, which gave him a 12th place finish.
