British Indoor Championships

EIS Stadium, Sheffield

Saturday & Sunday 27th/28th February 2016

The annual British indoor athletics championships were held on the last weekend in February, at the English Institute of Sports stadium in Sheffield. These championships are by invitation only and are restricted to competitors who the selectors consider to be currently the best in form athletes in Great Britain. It is a huge honour to be selected and a massive confidence boost for the athletes who get the call.

The championships were held in a packed stadium, in front of a sell-out crowd.

Call ups came for two of our senior athletes Megan Hoult and Luke Giblin and for two of the clubs youth team athletes Charlotte Paterson and Andy Morgan-Harrison, who have all been in excellent form at this year’s indoor meetings.

Charlotte Paterson enjoyed a fabulous year in 2015, gaining England selection for the Welsh International, English Schools Champion and double Northern Champion, to name but a few of her many successes.

She was in action in both days of competition, starting on the Saturday with the 60 metres sprints. Charlotte was drawn in heat 5, where she took 2nd place and ran a time of 7.56s, to qualify for the semi finals. She went in the second of the semi finals, taking another 2nd place finish and running a new PB of 7.49s, and move on to the final.

The final saw Charlotte take 5th place and run another excellent time of 7.51s.

On the Sunday she was back in business, this time in the 200 metres sprints competition. The day began with three heats, with Charlotte going in the second of them. She won the race and set a new PB 24.46s, which gave her a place in the final.

In the 200 metres final she recorded her second new PB of the day, running a time of 24.41s, to take a 4th place finish.

Andy Morgan-Harrison has enjoyed a superb 2015/16 indoor campaign, at the Northern Championships he won the 200 metres gold medal and picked up the bronze in the 60 metres, this earned him a call up to represent Northern England at February’s Welsh International in Cardiff, he followed this with semi final appearances in both the 60 and the 200 at the England Championship’s meeting.

Andy was in competition in Sundays 200 metres sprints, where he was drawn in the fourth heat, he took 2nd place in the race and crossed the finish line in a time 22.30s, which gave him semi final qualification.

In the semi final he ran a time of 22.18s, which gave him a 3rd place finish in the race, but it wasn’t enough to get him into the final.

Luke Giblin has been with Kingston for more than a decade, he is a hard trainer and a great competitor who is committed to his sport. He picked up his eighth Northern Championship medal this January, winning silver indoors in the 200 metres final, he has also won eight County sprint titles.

He was in competition in Sunday’s senior men’s 200 metres sprints races, where he was drawn in the last of the four scheduled heats. He took 5th place in the race and recorded a time of 22.65s, which didn’t get him into the semis.

Megan Hoult made her debut for Kingston as a fourteen year old in June of 2006, and the coming track & field season will mark her 11th competitive season with the club. She is an eight time county sprint champion and is also a former Northern sprint champion.

Meagan was in action in the senior women’s 60 metres sprint event, which was held on the Saturday, the first day of competition.

She was drawn in the fourth of the five heats where she took 3rd place and ran a time of 7.68s, which earned her a place in the semi finals.

Megan went in the last of the three semi finals, but her 5th place finish in a time of 7.68s, was not sufficient to take her through to the final.
