National Youth Development League – Northern East 1
Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster – Sunday 1st May 2016
The 2016 league season got underway for our under 17 & under 20 athletes, at a cold, rainy and very windy Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster.
This team had won promotion as divisional champions in the 2015 season, and they knew it was going to be a tougher proposition this year. Some of the 2015 team have moved up into the under 23’s and have been replaced with a number of our promising 15 year olds from the junior team.
They faced fierce opposition from some quality teams and first class athletes. Our rivals were Team Forth Valley from Edinburgh, City of Sheffield & Dearne AC, South of Humber, which is an amalgamation of the Lincoln Wellington, Cleethorpes and Scunthorpe teams, Doncaster AC, and HAWKS, a composite team representing Harrogate, Wetherby and Scarborough.
The teams will contest four league matches over the course of the next three months, with the final fixture of the season to be held at the Costello Stadium in Hull in late July.
As always our sprinters and throwers got the day off to a great start and the young athletes making their debuts in the team put in splendid performances. There was a good all round effort from everyone at Doncaster and they all did the club proud.
Kingston finished in 3rd place on the day, and collected four league points. The match winners and league leaders were the very strong Edinburgh team, with Sheffield and Dearne in second place.
