UK Youth Development League – North Premier Division 2

Oval Athletic Stadium, Bebington – Saturday 16^th July 2016

The Kingston Junior teams final league match of the 2016 track & field season took them over to Cheshire, to the Oval Athletic Stadium in Bebington, the home track of Wirral Athletic Club. The team arrived there knowing that at the end of the day either Harrogate Harriers or ourselves would be relegated to East Division 1 for the 2017 season. We were second from bottom one point behind them and we had to beat Harrogate on the day to keep our place in the second highest division in Northern England.

Getting some of our young athletes out to competitions has proved difficult this season and the team has suffered as a result, leaving empty spaces on the team sheet that we have been unable to fill, which has cost us many match points over the course of the season.

The full line up of teams competing at Bebington were, Leeds City Athletic Club, West Cheshire Athletic Club, Wirral Athletic Club, Harrogate Harriers & Athletic Club, Kingston upon Hull Athletic Club and Rotherham Harriers & Athletic Club.

All of our young athletes At Bebington competed magnificently and there were some outstanding personal performances from the team. The majority of whom have been with this team not only this season, but last season as well and some of them the season before that. Despite our athlete’s mighty efforts, the Harrogate team collected 4.5 match points more than us on the day, which saw us relegated to East Division 1 next year, along with Rotherham who finished behind us in 6^th place.

Performance details for all the Kingston athletes are as follows:-

Under 13 Girls

Sophie Reed represented the team in the 75 metres ‘A’ race and she gave her usual 100% effort, running 11.2s to take 4^th place. In the ‘B’ we saw a great run of 11.0s by Sophie McIntyre to claim 2^nd place in her race.

Sophie Reed was back on duty in the 150 metres ‘A’ race where she ran a new PB of 21.6s for another 4^th place finish. Running in the ‘B’ was Lucy Parker who has only been training at the club for 3 months. She has been making good progress and this was her second league appearance, a new PB of 21.6s gave Lucy 2^nd place.

The 800 metres races brought Emilia Russell and Eve Anderson into the action.  Emilia went in the ‘A’ race where she took 5^th place with her run of 2:43.2s. Eve Anderson who was making her first appearance of 2016 went in the ‘B’ where she also took 5^th and ran a new PB of 2:54.9s.

Esther Savage competed in only the second 1200 metres race of her young career, going in the ‘A’ race where she ran a new PB of 4:41.8s for a 5^th place finish.

Sophie McIntyre saw more action in the 70 metres hurdles where she ran in the ‘A’ race, taking 5^th place and posting a new PB of 13.6s.

Esther Savage and Lucy Parker covered the high jump event and both of the girls set new PB’s, with Esther clearing a height of 1.10m to take 6^th place in the ‘A’ and Lucy 1.05m for 6^th place in the ‘B’.

Lucy Parker returned to action again in the long jump competition, leaping to a new PB of 3.93m in the ‘A’ to take 4^th place. Eve Anderson took 5^th place in the ‘B’ and she also registered a new PB of 3.38m.

The shot competition brought Holly Adams the 2016 Northern indoor champion and County champion to the throwing circle, where she won the ‘A’ with a throw of 8.98m. Emilia Russell took 2^nd place in the ‘B’ with her throw of 5.16m.

Holly Adams was back in competition in her second throwing event, this time taking 2^nd place in the javelin ‘A’ with a throw of 18.65m. Esther Savage launched a new PB of 17.59m to emerge as the winner of the ‘B’.

Under 13 Boys

The 100 and 200 metres sprints were covered by Junior Agostinho and Adam Fox. The 100 saw Junior running the ‘A’ race where he clocked a time of 14.1s and finished in 5^th place. In the ‘B’ Adam took 3^rd place and ran a new PB of 14.0s.

Adam was the ‘A’ runner in the 200 metres and he recorded his second new PB of the day, running 28.0s to take 3^rd place. Junior took 4^th place in the ‘B’ where he ran a time of 29.8s.

In the 800 metres ‘A’ race Adam Fox racked up his third PB of the day, running a time of 2:26.2s for a 3^rd place finish. James Iversen took 5^th place in the ‘B’ where he also posted a new PB of 2:52.3s.

Thomas Iversen took 5^th place in the 1500 metres ‘A’ where he ran a time of 5:19.0s. In the ‘B’ a run of 5:23.0s by Thomas Smales saw him finish in 4^th place.

The 75 metres hurdles found Junior Agostinho running a new PB of 14.1s in the ‘A’ where he took 2^nd place. Jack Singleton was the winner of the ‘B’ race and he also ran a new PB of 14.1s.

In the field events brothers Thomas and Harry Iversen were in action in the high jump, where Harry cleared a new PB height of 1.25m for 3^rd place in the ‘A’. In the ‘B’ Thomas took 4^th place with a clearance at 1.10m.

The long jump saw Fabian Vidal take 6^th place in the ‘A’ with his leap of 3.92m whilst James, the third of the Iversen triplets jumped a new PB of 3.76m for 5^th place in the ‘B’.

Fabian Vidal also saw action in the shot circle where he took 2^nd place in the ‘A’ with his throw of 7.33m.

In the javelin competition Alex Chivers threw a new PB of 17.98m to take 4^th place in the ‘A’ and Fabian Vidal also threw a new PB of 15.67m for 3^rd place in the ‘B’.

Under 15 Girls

Representing the team in both the 100 and 200 metres were Kate Huntington and Rose Hewitt, with Kate running both of the ‘A’ races and Rose both of the B’s. The 100 saw Kate running a new PB of 13.0s for a 4^th place finish, with Rose taking 5^th place in her race in a time of 14.0s.  In the 200 metre event both of the girls were the race winners, Kate ran another new PB of 27.3s to clinch victory in the ‘A’ and Rose’s run of 28.8s in the ‘B’ gave the team a double victory.

The 300 metres saw Evie Watson run a new PB of 45.3s in the ‘A’ to claim 5^th place, whilst Abbie Haigh  finished 6^th in the ‘B’ where she ran a time of 47.7s.

Jodie Martin was the ‘A’ runner in the 800 metres race where she took 4^th place and ran a time of 2:29.9s, the ‘B’ runner was Katy McCabe who finished in 5^th place in a time of 2:54.7s.

The 1500 metres saw Abbie Haigh run a new PB of 5:42.2s in the ‘A’ for a 5^th place finish, whilst in the ‘B’ Emily Dye who was running her first ever 1500 metres race recorded a PB of 6:34.0s for 6^th place.

The two girls were back together again in the 75 metres hurdles event where Emily ran in the ‘A’, taking 6^th place and posting a time of 13.9s. Abbie also took 6^th place in the ‘B’ where she ran a new PB of 13.2s.

He high jump competition paired Alanah Thoresby in the ‘A’ and Rosie Shepherd in the ‘B’ where Alanah cleared a new personal best height of 1.40m for 3^rd place and Rosie also took a 3^rd place finish with her clearance 1.35m.

Emily Dye and Alanah Thoresby were the Kingston representatives in the long jump competition where Emily finished in 5^th place in the ‘A’ with her leap of 4.50m. Alanah took 2^nd place in the ‘B’ where she pulled out a new PB of 4.45m.

Indigo Atkin took 3^rd place in the shot ‘A’ with her throw of 8.78m and Ciara Andrews was the runner up in the ‘B’ with her effort of 7.53m.

In the discus competition  Jess Townsend took 3^rd place in the ‘A’ with a throw of 18.24m and Becky Chivers was the winner of the ‘B’ with her best effort of 17.90m.

Indigo Atkin was the winner of the hammer ‘A’ competition, where she threw a distance of 32.62m. Ellie Townsend’s throw of 13.13m in the ‘B’ gave her 4^th place.

The javelin event brought together Becky Chivers in the ‘A’ and Indigo Atkin in the ‘B’. Becky launched the javelin out a distance of 29.04m to finish in 2^nd place, whilst Indigo was the winner of the ‘B’ with her throw of 25.05m.

Under 15 Boys

Brody Hinson was in action in the 100 metres ‘A’ race where he ran a new PB of 11.9s, going under the 12 second mark for the first time and picking up 2^nd place. Sam Croney took 3^rd place in the ‘B’ with his run of 12.6s.

In the 200 metres Brody ran another new PB of 24.0s, taking 4 tenths off his previous best, for another 2^nd place finish. Tyler Thompson went in the ‘B’ and he too ran a new PB of 25.6s, taking 1.4seconds off his previous best to claim a 2^nd place finish.

Joe Seed was the winner of the 300 metres ‘A’ race and he took 2.9seconds of his best time, lowering it to 40.6s. In the ‘B’ race Callum Featherstone made both his club and league debut in the ‘B’, taking 5^th place and posting a PB of 44.2s.

In the 800 metres Joe and Callum were back in action. With Joe taking 3^rd place in the ‘A’ with another new PB of 2:15.2s and Callum winning the ‘B’ and running his second new PB of the day recording a time of 2:18.9s.

The 1500 metres saw Harvey Newton run a new PB of 4:59.4s to take 4^th place in the ‘A’ race, clipping 5.6seconds from his previous best time.

Sam Croney saw more action, this time in his specialist event, the 80 metres hurdles. He was  the race winner running a time of 12.2s and finishing half a second ahead of the field.

On the field Tyler Thompson took 2^nd place in the high jump ‘A’, going clear at a height of 1.45m

Ben Stutely took 2^nd place in the pole vault, his specialist event, going clear at 2.30m.

In the long jump competition Tyler Thompson and Ben Stutely were in action together. Tyler taking 4^th place in the ‘A’ with a new PB of 4.75m and Ben 2^nd place in the ‘B’ where he too jumped a new PB of 4.49m.

Shaun Kerry gave a master class in the hammer throw, finishing more than 35 metres in front of all the other throwers, his best throw of the day was one of 56.82m. Antony Mould who is a new recruit to our hammer group was the winner of the ‘B’ event with a new PB of 23.60m.

Shaun and Antony joined forces again in the shot competition, with Shaun winning the ‘A’ with his throw of 12.96m and Antony taking 5^th place in the ‘B’ with 6.26m.

Shaun Kerry picked up his third victory of the day in the javelin ‘A’ with a throw of 37.83m. In the ‘B’ Ben Stutely’s new PB of 17.81m gave him 4^th place.

Antony Mould returned to the throwing circle in the discus ‘A’ taking 5^th place with his throw of 17.74m. Joe Seed took 3^rd place in the ‘B’ with his effort of 16.06m.

Relay Races

4 x 100 metres – Under 13 Girls

Eve Anderson, Emilia Russell, Sophie McIntyre and Lucy Parker finished in 5^th place and they ran a time of 59.6s

4 x 100 metres – Under 13 Boys

Fabian Vidal, Junior Agostinho, Adam Fox and Jack Singleton finished in 3^rd place and they posted a time of 58.1s.

4 x 100 metres – Under 15 Girls

Emily Dye, Rose Hewitt, Kate Huntington and Evie Watson finished in 3^rd place and they ran a time of 54.8s.

4 x 100 metres – Under 15 Boys

Brody Hinson, Sam Croney, Tyler Thompson and Shaun Kerry took 2^nd place in the race where they posted a new club PB of 48.9s.

4 x 300 metres – Under 15 Girls

Evie Watson, Abbie Haigh, Jodie Martin and Alanah Thoresby finished in 6^th place and they recorded a time of 3:08.9s.

4 x 300 metres – Under 15 Boys

Harvey Newton, Joe Seed, Sam Croney and Brody Hinson finished in 4^th place and they ran a season’s best time of 3:04.1s.

Non Scorers Races

100 metres – Under 13 Boys (race 1)

Jack Singleton took 4^th place in the race and he ran a time of 15.1s. Harry Iversen finished 6^th and his recorded time was 16.1s.

James Iversen ran in race 2 of the non scorers 100 metres, where he took 5^th place and ran a new PB of 16.0s.

100 metres – Under 15 Girls

Emily Dye finished 4^th in the race and she ran a new PB of 14.1s. Rosie Shepherd finished in 7^th place and she ran a time of 14.8s.
