‘Kingston Young Athletes Open Meeting’

Costello Stadium, Hull – Saturday 17^th September 2016 

Kingston’s annual Open Meeting for young athletes aged up to 15 years was staged at the Costello Stadium on Saturday the 17^th of September. All young athletes and anyone who was aspiring to get into athletics were welcome to come along to the stadium and compete. There was a very good turnout with competitors coming from all three Yorkshire Ridings, from Lincolnshire and as far afield as Northumberland, Durham and Derbyshire, together with a huge response from our own athletes.

The balmy conditions this area had enjoyed in the week days leading up to this event had disappeared before the weekend, it was much cooler but it was a decent enough day and the spectators were kept well entertained by the athletes efforts on the track and out on the field.

An added bonus for all of the track athletes was the provision of an electronic timing system which we had loaned for this event.

Medals were awarded to the first three athletes in every event.

Performance details for all of the Kingston athletes who competed at the meeting are as follows.

Under 11 Boys

Noah Sibary is in his first competitive season with Kingston and had competed at a couple of open meetings prior to this event. He entered for the 80 metre sprint and the 600 metres race here. He won the 80 metres setting a new a new PB of 12.66, taking 0.14 of a second off his old best. In the 600 metres Noah’s run of 1:57.08s saw him take a 2^nd place finish.

9 year old Ben Russell took on both of the sprint races in the 80 metres the county bronze medallist took 2^nd place and two tenths of a second off his old mark, setting a new PB of 12.90s. A 4^th place finish followed in his first ever competitive 150 metres race where he set himself a brand new PB of 25.14s.

10 year old Reece Iversen made his competitive debut in the 80 metres race taking 3^rd place and setting himself a PB of 12.91s.

10 year old Finlay Southcoat is enjoying his first competitive season with the club, at his first County Championship meeting this May he took three gold medals home at 80, 150 and 600 metres. He took on two of them at this meeting where he was the winner of the 150 in a time of 23.99s and took 3^rd place in the 600 taking 2.52 seconds off his best mark, setting a new PB of 1:58.28s. He also took 2^nd place in the long jump and posted another new PB with a leap of 3.58m, 31 centimetres further than his old best.

10 year old William Fairburn is in his third competitive season he is a sprinter and a prolific park runner. He was in action in the 150 metre sprint and the 600 metres race, the 150 metres saw him take 2^nd place and run a time of 24.42s. In the 600 metres he clipped 2.04s from his best time, running a new PB of 2:03.66s for 5^th place.

10 year old Toby Greensmith has been training in our junior group since June of this year and he made his club debut at this meeting running in the 600 metres a race which he won, posting a time of 1:54.38s and setting himself an impressive new PB.

Matthew Wallace was also in competition in the 600 metres race where he too ran a new PB of 2:00.26s, which saw him finish the race in 4^th place.

Under 11 Girls

2016 is Emma Hoggard’s debut season the 10 year old joined our junior groups this April. She made a good impression soon afterwards winning two silver medals in the sprints at May’s County Championships and she shows some promise for the future. She ran in both the sprint races and the 600 metres race at this meeting. Emma was the winner of the first of the 80 metre races where she ran a new PB of 12.56s clipping 0.14s off her previous best time. The 150 metres saw her take 2^nd place and post another new PB of 23.51s taking 0.14s off her best time. In the 600 metres race she took 7.05 seconds off her previous best time running a new PB of 2:01.85s for a 2^nd place finish.

Another young lady who is in her debut season is 9 year old Evie McCoid, who also joined our junior groups this April. The Open saw her make both her club and competitive debut for Kingston running in the first 80 metre race. Evie showed up well and ran a time of 13.80s to finish in 3^rd place.

Race two of the 80 metres series saw Tilly Cairns go under the twelve second barrier for the first time, running a time 11.88s to claim victory and shaving 0.18 of a second from the PB she had set only six days earlier at the York Open meeting. In race three of the 150 metre sprint races Tilly picked up her second victory of the day, winning the race and posting a time of 23.04s. Further action came for her in the long jump competition where she set her second new PB of the day, taking 3^rd place with a leap 3.46m, 8 centimetres more than her old PB.

One of the clubs most experienced under11 athletes Tonisha Pickering was also in action in the second of the 80 metre races where she took 3^rd place and clocked 13.08s her best electronic time. She also ran in the first of the 150 metre sprint races where she took 4^th place and recorded a time of 25.13s, she was in further competition in the long jump where her effort of 3.45m gave her 4^th place.

Race 3 of the 80 metre series saw 10 year old Beth Moodie making her club debut and her run of 12.74s a new PB gave her 2^nd place in the race. She followed this up with a 3^rd place finish in the 150metres and set herself another new PB of 24.61s. She also participated in the long jump event where she finished in 7^th place and her jump of 3.34m put another PB next to her name.

10 year old Anya Beetham only joined our junior group in August and she made her club debut at this meeting. She ran in race 2 of the 150 metres taking 4^th place with her run of 27.04s to set her first new PB. Anya was also in action in the 600 metres race where she claimed 7^th place running another new PB of 2:20.51s.

Freya Vidal had her 10^th birthday two days before this meeting she is in her second track & field season and like all the under 11’s she is learning her trade in the Humber track league and at Open meetings. She started her day in race 3 of the 80 metres where she took 3^rd place and her time of 12.79s was her best run under electronic timing. The 150 metres saw her back on the track claiming another 3^rd place finish and running another electronic best time of 24.46s. Freya’s jump of 3.23m in the long jump competition saw her finish in 8^th place.

10 year old Charlotte Lawson has been training with our juniors for just two weeks and she made her competitive debut in race 3 of the 80 metres where she set herself a new PB in a decent time of 12.99s to claim 4^th place. She also competed in the long jump event where she set another new PB of 3.08m to finish in 10th place.

Izzy Watts and Lydia Moore have been with our junior section since June of this year and both were making their competitive debuts. Izzy Watts was in action in race 3 of the 150 metres where she finished in 3^rd place and recorded a time of 26.23s. Lydia Moore competed in the 600 metres race where her run of 2:19.24s saw her finish in 6^th place.

9 year old Bronte Smith has been with our junior group since March this year and she made her competitive debut at the Open. She ran in the 4^th 80 metre race taking 3^rd place with a run of 13.49s.

Under 11 Girls – 4 x 100 metres Relay

The four girls in the 4 x 100 metres relay team were

Beth Moodie, Emma Hoggard, Tonisha Pickering and Tilly Cairns. They ran an excellent race the handovers were fine and all four of them put in huge performances which culminated in Tilly carrying the baton over the finish line in a time of 63.7s.

Under 13 Boys

The prolific competitor and County silver medallist Adam Fox was the winner of the first 100 metres race where he ran a new PB of 13.60s taking 4 tenths of a second off his previous best. 12 year old Jack Singleton the County bronze medallist took 3^rd place and posted his best electronic time of 14.79s. In 4^th place was Jake Iversen who took 1.37s off his best mark setting a new PB of 15.53s and in 6^th was his cousin James Iversen who ran his best electronic time of 15.74s.

The second 100 metres race saw Owen Robinson taking 2^nd place with his best run under electrics of 14.46s, 4^th place went to Harvey Southcoat with his run of 14.81s and in 5^th was Alex Grant in 15.27s and in 6^th place making his debut appearance was 11 year old Matthew Tranmer who set a new PB of 15.31s.

In the 200 metres race Owen Robinson finished in 2^nd place where he ran a time of 30.96s with Fabian Vidal 3^rd in his best electric time of 31.56s. Harvey Southcoat took 4^th in 32.14s and Thomas Smales was 6^th in a time of 33.23s.

In the 75 metre hurdles race the County silver medallist Jack Singleton took 2^nd place with his run of 14.55s. In 3^rd was Harry Iversen who took 0.69 of a second of his previous best setting a new PB of 16.41s and in 4^th place was his brother James Iversen with his run of 16.45s.

In the 800 metres Adam Fox was back in action and he took 2^nd place in the race running a good time of 2:26.35s, just a fraction outside his personal best which on another day would have been enough for him to win the race but he had to cede victory to Joseph Currie of Chesterfield the UK ranked number 16 who looks a real prospect. Thomas Smales finished in 4^th place running a new PB of 2:37.38s, taking 1.12 seconds of his old best mark with Thomas Iversen who was running his first competitive 800 metres race taking 5^th and setting himself a new PB of 2:39.88s. Harvey Southcoat finished in 6^th place 2:49.21s.

The long jump competition was won by heptathlete Connor Pickering who produced a jump of 4.34m. Alex Grant took 3^rd place with a new PB of 4.29m, 37 centimetres beyond his previous best, Fabian Vidal was 4^th with his leap of 4.19m with Owen Robinson taking 5^th with a new PB of 4.16m, 16 centimetres more than his old mark and Adam Fox finished in 6^th place with 3.75m.

The high jump competition saw the Iversen triplets fighting for the medals. Harry Iversen finished in 2^nd place with a clearance at 1.25m with Thomas who also cleared 1.25m in 3^rd place and James in 4^th with a height of 1.15m.

The winner of the shot competition was Korben Pratt who threw a new PB of 10.88m an increase of 58 centimetres on his winning throw the previous weekend at the Inter Counties meeting in Nuneaton.  Connor Pickering took 2^nd place with his throw of 8.85m with Fabian Vidal taking 3^rd with 7.37m and Alex Chivers 4^th with his throw of 5.48m.

Connor Pickering threw a new PB of 28.43m an increase of 2.72 metres on his old best to take 3^rd place in the javelin event. Alex Chivers took 4^th place and he too threw a new PB of 21.69m adding 1.22 metres to his old best mark and Alex Grant finished 5^th with his throw of 19.35m.

Under 13 Girls

There were two 100 metre races in the under 13 girl’s competition.

In race 1 Sophie Reed took 2^nd place and she ran a time of 14.12s, which was her best electric time and 11 year old Lydia Tranmer who was making her Kingston debut appearance finished in 5^th place and recorded a time of 16.56s.

In the second 100 metres race 11 year old Lucy Parker’s run of 14.51s saw her take a 3^rd place finish

Throws specialist Holly Adams showed off her sprinting prowess taking 5^th place in the 200 metres race with her run of 31.42s, which was her best time under the electronic system.

Ella Shaw-Hall ran in her first 800 metres race where she took 3^rd, place, recording a new PB of 2:52.46s, Jessica Waugh was running her first 800 as well and she took 5^th place with her new PB of 2:54.67s with Esther Savage claiming 7^th spot with her run of 3:01.44s, Eve Anderson was 9^th in 3:04.73s and Lucy Good who was making her competitive debut as a Kingston athlete ran a new PB of 3:11.21s in 10^th place

The long jump competition saw Lucy Parker winning 3^rd place and putting in a jump of 3.82m with Sophie Reed taking 4^th place with 3.67m and Ella Shaw-Hall in her first long jump competition in 5^th with a new PB of 3.45m. 6^th place went to Eve Anderson who also jumped a new PB of 3.44m, 6 centimetres beyond her previous best. Jessica Waugh finished in 10^th place with her leap of 2.85m and Lucy Good making her Kingston debut was 11^th with a new PB of 2.72m.

The shot competition was won by the Northern indoor Champion Holly Adams with her throw of 8.83m with Emilia Russell taking 3^rd place with a new PB of 5.67m, 10 centimetres past her previous best.

Holly Adams collected her second victory of the day in the javelin competition, throwing a new PB of 24.62m and increasing her best mark by 3.72 metres. Sophie Reed took 2^nd place with her effort of 21.44m which was a new PB and a 5.24 metres increase, Esther Savage increased he PB by 2.46 metres to take 3^rd place and set a new PB of 20.05m and Emilia Russell’s new PB of 16.52m a 4.95 metres increase saw her take 5^th place.

Under 15 Boys

The County 100 and 200 metres Champion Brody Hinson did another sprint double at the Open, winning the 100 metres with his run of 12.02s which was his best performance with electronic timing. Brody won the 200 metres race in a time of 24.48s with training partner Tyler Thompson taking 2^nd place in 26.80s.

Ben Stutely jumped a new PB of 4.78m to take 2^nd place in the long jump, increasing his old best by 29 centimetres.

Under 15 Girls

Imogen Hayhurst ran in the first of the 100 metres races where she took 6^th place with her fastest electronically timed run of 15.17s

In race 2 of the 100 metres the Northern 800 metres silver medallist Jodie Martin took 2^nd place and clipped 0.28 of a second off her previous best to post a new PB of 14.22s. Emily Dye took 3^rd place with her run of 14.25s with Alanah Thoresby 4^th in 14.44s. Rosie Shepherd finished 5^th in 14.83s and Katy McCabe ran a new PB of 15.75s for 6^th place.

Becky Chivers ran a new PB of 30.84s to take 3^rd place in the first of the 200 metres races shaving 0.66 of a second off her old time. Rosie Shepherd finished in 5^th place and she ran a time of 31.60s.

The 75 metres hurdles competition saw Abbie Haigh run 13.22s, her best time under electrics to claim a second place finish. Becky Chivers took 4^th place in the race and set a new PB of 13.63s with Imogen Hayhurst taking 5^th with a new PB of 14.3s and Lucy Whittaker finishing in 6^th place and running a time of 16.19s.

Lucy Whittaker was in further action in the 800 metres race where she finished in 4^th place and recorded a time of 3:23.12s.

In the long jump event Alanah Thoresby took 2^nd place with a jump measuring 4.35m, whilst Katy McCabe jumped a new PB of 3.44m for a 6^th place finish.

In the high jump Rosie Shepherd took 2^nd place with her clearance at a height of 1.40m and Alanah Thoresby claimed 3^rd place at the same height of 1.40m.

Northern Champion Becky Chivers was the winner of the javelin event where she launched a throw of 31.85m. Indigo Atkin took 3^rd place with her throw of 25.08s.

Indigo Atkin was the winner of the shot competition where her best effort on the day was one of 9.46m.
