Open Meetings

A number of Kingston’s junior athletes were in attendance at two of the last open meetings of the 2016 track & field season. They took the opportunity to put themselves to the test once more and try to achieve new personal best performances before track & field athletics gave way to an autumn and winter of races and relays, both out on the road and over the cross country courses.

On the 18^th of September 12 year old Holly Adams made the journey over to the Princess Mary Stadium in Cleckheaton with her family, to compete in the ‘Ivan Stringer’ memorial meeting. 2016 has been a real year of achievement for Holly which has seen her win the Northern indoor shot title as well as the County title, silver medals followed at the Northern track & field championships and at Septembers inter Counties meeting she was adjudged the outstanding female field athlete in the under 13’s age category. She registered two further victories at the Cleckheaton meeting where she won both the shot and the discus competitions. Holly threw a distance of 8.92m with the shot and 21.71m in the discus event.

On the 24^th of September thirteen athletes were in competition at the ‘Denis Lumbard’ memorial meeting which was staged at the King George V stadium in Grimsby.

10 year old Finlay Southcoat was Kingston’s representative in the under 11 boy’s competition. He qualified from the heats and was in action in both of the sprint finals, the 80 metres saw him take 2^nd place and run a time of 13.9s. Another 2^nd place came in the 150 metres where he crossed the finish line in 24.6s. He was the winner of the long jump event where he pulled out a leap of 3.37m.

In the under 11 girls category Tilly Cairns qualified for both the 80 metres and 150 metres sprint finals. She took 3^rd place in both of the races where she clocked a time of 13.0s in the 80 metres and ran the 150 metres in 24.6s. In addition 10 year old Tilly also ran in the second of the under 13’s 100 metres heats, recording a new PB of 17.5s and finishing 6^th in the race.

Also in the under 11 girls Holly Cresswell ran a new PB of 15.4s for a 4^th place finish in heat four of the 80 metres and she also posted another new PB of 2.75m to claim 11^th place in the long jump event.

10 year old Lydia Moore had her second competitive outing of her young career in the 600 metres race where she took a 7^th place finish with her run of 2:21.2s.

In the under 13 boys competition Connor Pickering and Harvey Southcoat joined in the action. Both of them were involved in the heats of the 100 metres and both went on to contest the final where Connor took 4^th place with his run of 15.4s and Harvey crossed the finish line in 5^th where he posted a time of 15.8s.

Harvey Southcoat also qualified for the finals of the 200 metres sprint and the 800 metres race. He was the winner of the 800 metres covering the two lap race in a time of 2:41.6s and took 4^th place in the 200 metres running a time of 33.6s.

Connor Pickering saw further action in the long jump and the shot where he was the winner of both the events. In the shot he threw a new PB of 9.65m, adding 69 centimetres to his previous best performance and he took victory in the long jump with a leap of 4.30m.

Lucy Cresswell flew the flag for the under 13 girls, she ran in heat one of the 100 metres sprints where her run of 16.8s gave her a 5^th place finish which was not enough to get her into the final. Further action followed for Lucy in the shot event where she took 5^th place with her throw of 5.17m and her best effort of 3.45m in the long jump gave her 13^th place.

13 year old Brody Hinson was in action in both of the sprint finals where he collected yet another sprint double. The County champion won the 100 metres in a time of 12.8s crossing the finish line 4 tenths of a second in front of the 2^nd place finisher and in the 200 metres he finished 1.3 seconds ahead of the rest of the field running a time of 24.9s.

In the under 15 girls events training partners Kate Huntington and Rose Hewitt were in competition in the sprints and the long jump.

14 year old Kate was the winner of both the 100 metres and 200 metres sprint races. In the 100 metres she crossed the finishing line in 13.6s, half a second ahead of her nearest challenger. 13 year old Rose took 5^th place in the race and she ran a time of 14.3s.

The 200 metres saw Kate finish three tenths of a second ahead of the field running a time of 29.0s for the race with Rose this time taking a 3^rd place finish in a recorded time of 30.1s.

The long jump competition saw a new PB of 4.52m by Kate, forty eight centimetres above her old best, giving her 2^nd place whilst Rose who was taking part in her first competitive long jump event took 6^th place with her new PB of 4.21m, whilst a season’s best jump of 3.97m by 13 year old Ellie Townsend gave her a 10^th place finish.

15 year old Abbie Haigh took 2^nd place in the 75 metres hurdles race where she ran a time of 14.0s. Abbie was also in action in the high jump where she took 5^th place with a clearance at a new PB height of 1.40m, an increase of 5 centimetres on her old best.

Also competing in the high jump was Ellie Townsend who took 7^th place with her clearance at a new PB height of 1.35m, whilst her twin sister Jess Townsend’s throw of 19.41m saw her take victory in the discus competition.
