Bridlington Half Marathon

The Bridlington half marathon was held on Sunday the 16th of October the event was first held in 1983 and it is organised by the Bridlington Road Runners club. It is a very testing course which starts on the seafront and goes out into the country to Sewerby and on to Flamborough and Bempton. The runners then head back into Bridlington before looping out again to Sewerby and then through the grounds of Sewerby Hall before finishing on the seafront in Bridlington. The going was tough this year with the athletes having to contend with driving rain and strong winds. The age ranges represented in the race went from youth athletes (aged under 20) up to the V70 category (over 70 but under 75 years).
Eight of members of Kingston’s road running section were amongst the field of 529 athletes who contested the race.
The first Kingston athlete to cross the finish line was Mike Potter who was the winner of the V35 race and he covered the course in a new personal best time of 1:32.17s.
The next Kingston athlete home in 87th position was Rich Harrison who was the winner of the V45 race and he ran a time of 1:37.11s.
The winner of the V40 race Mark Gronow was the next of the clubs athletes to cross the finishing line in a time of 1:37.16s to claim 92nd place overall.
Lee Draper took 2nd place in the V40 race and was placed 102nd overall with his run of 1:38.59s.
The next Kingston finisher was Jarrad Englestown who took 2nd place in the V35 race and 128th overall and also posted a new PB of 1:41.49s.
Neil Heron was the winner of the V55’s race which he ran in a season’s best time of 1:47.05s to claim 191st place in the race overall.
In the V60’s race Keith Ross finished in 13th place navigating the course in a time of 1:49.54s to take 223rd in the overall placings.
Andy Dickerson ran a new PB of 1:52.38s which gave him an overall placing of 254th and also saw him cross the line as the winner of the V50’s race.
