2017 County Schools Cross Country Championships – South Hunsley School

Twenty Kingston athletes were in action at the County Schools cross country championship meeting which was staged at the South Hunsley School in Melton.

Three training partners were in action in the under 20 men’s race where the winner was Baldvin Magnusson who has had a terrific cross country season he covered the course in a time of 18:31 sec and he added the County Schools title to the County crown he had won just three weeks earlier at the championship meeting at Barton on Humber. Jack Brothwell who was the runner up at the County championships ran the South Hunsley course in 18:51 sec to once again take the silver medal behind his training partner. The bronze medallist at the County event Tom Whitley this time finished in 5th place  and he covered the course in a time of 20:49 sec.

The under 15 boy’s competition saw three more training partners in action among a field of 41 runners with biathlete Harvey Roberts the first of the Kingston trio home crossing the finish line in 5th place and running the race in a time of 14:12 sec, Adam Fox came home in 7th place and his time was one of 14:16 sec and crossing the line in 7th was Thomas Smales who covered the course in 14:19 sec.

Thomas Iversen was Kingston’s representative in the under 13 boy’s race where he was running in a field of 44 athletes he put in a great effort and his run of 7:24 sec saw him cross the finishing line in 3rd place to collect the bronze medal.

Three of the clubs athletes were among the 37 starters in the under 17 women’s race and all three put in solid performances with Connie Mounsey covering the course in a time of 15:30 sec and crossing the finish line in 4th place. Becky Chivers finished in 6th place and she ran the course in 15:53 sec with Daisy Evans coming home in 11th place in a time of 16:36 sec.

The under 15 girls race was contested by a field of 51 runners and nine of them were Kingston athletes three of whom finished in the top 8. Another outstanding performance from Jodie Martin saw her running the course in a time of 11:08 sec to win the race and improve on the silver medal she won at the County championships it was the gold medal this time. Molly Chadwick had her first race of the year and her run of 12:17 sec saw her finish in 7th place, Katy McCabe was having her second run out of this year following her 8th place at the County championships, she ran the course in 12:22 sec for  another 8th place finish. The next Kingston athlete home was Megan Hatfield with her first run out of the year she finished in 14th place and ran a time of 12:51 sec. Eve Anderson made her 2017 bow and she ran the course in 13:27 sec 25th place, in 28th place was Lauren McClean in her second competitive run of 2017 she covered the course in 13:36 sec to finish 28th. Daisy Logan joined Kingston in late 2016 and this was her first competitive run she finished in 30th and posted a time of 13:41 sec. Ella Shaw-Hall ran her first race of 2017 where she took 39th place and recorded a time of 14:00 sec. Rosie Shepherd was placed 44th and ran the course in 14:25 sec in her first run out this year. 

The under 13 girls race saw Charlotte Gray making her first appearance of the year she covered the course in a time of 9:53 sec and finished in 47th place.
