2017 Tom Pink Relays & Field Events

EIS Stadium, Sheffield – Saturday 11^th March

The annual Tom Pink Relays & Field Events were held at the English Institute of Sports indoor stadium on Saturday 11th March the 2017 event marked the 10th year that the relays have been held at the EIS and there was a big turnout with more than 300 young athletes making the journey to Sheffield from clubs covering most of  Northern England.

The Tom Pinks is a competition for children who compete in the under11 and under 13 age categories and the event is one that the younger athletes at Kingston upon Hull AC look forward to with relish.  Coach Jo Townsend got together 26 young athletes from the clubs junior training groups to compete as a Kingston team at the EIS and with help from parents and other volunteers she managed and inspired them on the day of competition.

The outstanding Kingston performances at the competition were from the talented shot putter Holly Adams whose throw of 11.00 metres in the under 13 girls shot won her not only the gold medal but set a new competition record beating the old best which had stood since 2009 she also won a second gold in the weight for height throw. The under13 boys shot saw Connor Pickering take the gold medal with a throw of 9.00 metres and he collected a silver medal in the weight for distance throw. Beth Moodie was the silver medallist in the under 11 girl’s caber event  whilst bronze medals went to under 13’s Junior Agostinho in the standing long jump and Fabian Vidal in the shot.

Relay Results

Under 11 Girl’s – ‘Keeping up with Paula’

The event consisted of three heats and a final and the Kingston team of  Freya Vidal, Tonisha Pickering, Tilly Cairns, Eva Reed and Emma Hoggard were drawn in the third heat where they finished in 2^nd place in a time of 2:49.4 sec which booked their passage into the final where the girls ran a time of 2:50.3 sec for a 4^th place finish.

Under 11 Girl’s – ‘Over & Under Race ‘

The same four girls were back in competition in the ‘over and under’ relay which also consisted of 3 heats followed by a final they were drawn in heat two where they finished in 2^nd place and posted a time of 1:22.6 sec just 1.3 sec outside the qualifying standard for the final.

Under 13 Boy’s – ‘Chasing Mo’

The boy’s race consisted of two heats followed by a final and the Kingston team were Fabian Vidal, Harvey Southcoat, Connor Pickering, Junior Agostinho and Oliver Adnitt they were drawn in heat 2 where they finished in 4^th place and their time of 3:52.6 sec saw them qualify for the final. They improved on that time in the final where they ran 3:51.6 sec for a 4^th place finish and were just .09 of a second away from the bronze medal.

Under 13 Boy’s – ‘3 x 2.5 Lap Time Trials’

The same Kingston team ran again in the time trial relay where there were a total of 12 teams competing in the race they finished in 4^th place and their time of 4:41.2 sec left them just 1.2 sec outside of the bronze medal position.

Field Results – Under 11 Girls & Boys

Standing Triple Jump

There were three Kingston athletes among the 19 competitors in the standing triple jump where Lydia Moore took 11^th place with her jump of 4.98 metres whilst Eva Reed was 14^th with 4.84 m and Tilly Cairns’ jump of 4.73 m gave her 16^th place.

There were 18 athletes in the boys event where Owen Foster’s jump of 4.92 metres gave him a 10^th place finish and Marcus Gray finished in 17^th with his effort of 4.07m.

Standing Long Jump

There were 22 competitors in the event and Kingston’s Tonisha Pickering took 7^th place with her jump of 1.83 metres with Freya Vidal in 8^th with 1.82m and Emma Hoggard 13^th with 1.75 m.

16 competitors were in action in the boys event where Finlay Southcoat claimed 10^th place with his jump of 1.70 metres and Owen Foster took 12^th with a jump of 1.54 m.

Highland Steps

21 contestants were in action in the highland steps event and the leading Kingston athlete was Emma Hoggard in 13^th place who managed 50 steps in her allotted time one position and one step behind in 14^th was Freya Vidal on 49 with Izzy Watts in 19^th with 40.

In a field of 17 athletes Finlay Southcoat took 4^th place with his steps total of 70 just 2 steps away from the bronze medal.

Caber

The caber should be thrown in a straight line and the further you stray from the middle the less you score. There were 17 contestants and Beth Moodie was the silver medallist with her total of 28 and Izzy Watts was 14^th with 16 and Gracie Turner 17^th with 11.

Marcus Gray was the Kingston representative in the boys event and he took 14^th place with his total of 16.

Weight for Distance

19 young throwers were involved in this event where Tilly Cairns took 8^th place with her throw of 9.25 metres and Tibby Howe was placed 18^th with 6.50 m.

The boys event involved 18 throwers and Archie Seed took 9^th place with his effort of 9.00 metres with Ben Russell finishing in 17^th with his throw of 7.00 m.

Field Results – Under 13 Girls & Boys

 Standing Triple Jump

12 girls contested the event where Eve Anderson represented our girls team she took a 9^th place finish with her jump of 5.39 metres.

In the boy’s event Fabian Vidal finished in 10^th place with a jump of 5.66 metres and Junior Agostinho’s jump of 5.55 m gave him a 12^th place finish.

Standing Long Jump

Emilia Russell and Eve Anderson were the Kingston representatives in a field of 17 jumpers which saw Emilia finish in 7^th place with an effort of 1.94 metres and Eve take 10^th place with her jump of 1.84 m.

The boys event also had 17 competitors and Kingston’s Junior Agostinho took the bronze medal with his jump of 2.08 metres and team mate Harvey Southcoat was 15^th with 1.76 m.

Highland Steps

Amy Huntington was placed 6^th out of the 16 athletes in the highland steps where she amassed a total of 60.

 Shot Putt

One of the big stories of the day came in the girls shot where Holly Adams broke the Tom Pinks record which had stood since 2009 launching the shot out to a distance of 11.00 metres to add another gold medal to her growing collection. Team mate Charlotte Gray was also in action in the shot and she took 8^th place with her throw of 5.50 m.

The boys shot event saw Kingston athletes collect two medals with Connor Pickering winning the gold medal with his throw of 9.00 metres and Fabian Vidal was the bronze medallist with his effort of 7.75 m.

Weight for Height

Holly Adams won her second gold medal of the day in the weight for distance event where she threw a 4 kilogram weight at 5 metres Amy Huntington took 5^th place with 3 kilograms at 5 metres and Emilia Russell finished 7^th also with 3 Kg at 5 metres.

The boys competition saw Oliver Adnitt take 5^th place throwing 3 kilograms at 5 metres and Harvey Southcoat claiming 7^th place with 3 kg at 5 metres.

Weight for Distance

The boys weight for distance event brought a second medal of the day to Connor Pickering this time he was the silver medallist with a throw measuring 12.75 metres and Oliver Adnitt took 5^th place with his throw of 11.00 metres.
