2017 Northern Inter Counties Championships

Under 13’s & under 17’s

Costello Stadium, Hull – Sunday 2nd July 2017

 

The Northern Inter Counties Championships for athletes in the under15 and under 17 age groups under were held at Hull’s Costello stadium on Sunday the 2nd of July, and representative teams from North East Counties, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Cumbria, Derbyshire, Humberside and Greater Manchester were in competition with the Humberside team finishing the match in 5th place.

Twenty two Kingston athletes were selected for the Humberside team and the performance details of all of them are as follows.

Under 17’s

 

Jack Perry and David Morgan-Harrison the County and County Schools gold and silver medallists were selected for the 100 metres races this was David’s first County vest and Jack’s third. Jack Perry ran in the ‘A’ race where he finished in 4th place running a time of 11.94 sec and in the ‘B’ David took 3rd place and he ran exactly the same time of 11.94 sec.

In the 400 metres races County Champion Robert Tweedale won his third County vest and Joe Seed his fifth. Robert was the winner of the ‘A’ race where he ran a very good time of 51.59 sec and Joe Seed took 2nd place in the ‘B’ where he posted a new PB of 53.44 sec taking 1.53 seconds off his old best time.

The 100 metres hurdles paired together the Northern indoor bronze medallist and County Champion Adam Coles and the Northern track & field bronze medallist Sam Croney both of whom were making their 5th County appearance. Adam was the winner of the ‘A’ race with a good run of 14.32 sec and Sam took 3rd place in the ‘B’ with a good run of 15.38 sec just one hundredth of a second outside his PB.

The long jump brought Jack Perry and Adam Coles back into action with Jack taking 3rd place in the ‘A’ with a leap of 6.25 metres and Adam jumped a new PB of 6.09 metres 11 centimetres beyond his previous best for 2nd place in the ‘B’.

There was no hammer competition at the Inter Counties so the 2016 English Schools champion Shaun Kerry collected his 9th County vest in two of his other events the javelin and the shot. He was the ‘A’ thrower in both of them and he took 4th place in the shot with a throw of 12.13 metres and also was placed 4th in the javelin which he launched out to a distance of 41.27 metres.

 

In the women’s competition Hannah Kynman and Rose Hewitt were in action in the 100 metres races, the County and County schools champion Hannah Kynman made her 11th appearance for the county in the ‘A’ race where she took 2nd place and ran a time of 12.73 sec. In the ‘B’ Rose Hewitt the silver medallist at both 100 and 200 at this year’s county championships, who was making her second appearance at county level put a good run of 13.50 sec together to take 2nd place.

The 80 metres hurdles saw Venus Morgan the Northern indoor combined events champion and 6th place finisher at the England championships making her 11th county appearance  in the ‘A’ race where she took 2nd place and ran a time of 12.00 sec.

County and county schools long jump champion Libby Wheeler made her 8th county appearance at this meeting where she competed in the long jump ‘A’ taking 2nd place in the  event with a jump of 5.48 metres, in the ‘B’ the County schools high jump champion Abbie Haigh made her 13th appearance for the county and she finished in 6th place with her jump of 4.14 metres.

The javelin competition was Harriet Cannell’s fourth County appearance and she was in action in the ‘A’ event where the County and County schools champion threw a new PB of 38.90 metres an increase of 95 centimetres on her old mark to take 2nd place, in the ‘B’ Northern champion Becky Chivers won her eighth county vest  and she took 3rd place for the team with her throw of 31.38 metres.

 

Under 15’s

 

Brody Hinson who has been training with Kingston for just two years won his fourth county vest at this meeting, 2017 has already seen him become the 200 metres silver medallist at the Northern indoor championships and he completed the sprint double at both the County and County schools championship meetings, he was selected to run in both of the sprint races here and he produced two excellent performances, the 100 metres ‘A’ saw Brody clip three tenths of a second off his old best to win the race and set a new PB of 11.67 sec. In the 200 metres ‘A’ the UK ranked number 8 powered to victory in a time of 23.60 sec, seven tenths of a second ahead of the 2nd placed finisher.

Callum Featherstone has been making real progress in the last few months he has been looking good in training and he won his first medal an 800 metres bronze at the county schools championships, he was called into the County team and made his debut at this meeting in the 800 metres ‘A’ race where he was a 3rd place finisher and ran an excellent new PB of 2:10.66 sec taking 3.08 seconds off his previous best time.

Ben Copley is ranked number one UK in the under 15’s discus throw but there wasn’t a discus competition in his age group so he had to compete in his other two throwing events the javelin (ranked 4 UK) and Shot (14 UK). He has had another phenomenal season and has already won the UK javelin carnival at Loughborough as well as the County and County schools titles in discus, javelin and shot. This event saw Ben win the javelin ‘A’ with a huge throw of 50.67 metres 4.90 metres ahead of the 2nd place thrower and he took 2nd place in the shot with his throw of 12.50 metres.

In the women’s competition Daisy Logan who has only been training with Kingston for eight months was selected to run both the 100 and 200 sprints for the County team, she has been training well and has shown potential she was the 100 metres bronze medallist at this year’s County championships and made her debut appearance for the club in a UK Youth Development League fixture at York. She made her County debut at this meeting finishing in 7th place in the 100 metres ‘A’ race where she ran a time of 13.59 sec and then took 6th place in the 200 metres ‘A’ with her run of 27.51 sec.

Jodie Martin is a very good all round athlete she was the silver medallist at this year’s County cross country championships and she took the gold medal at the County schools cross country event and also put in big performances at both the Inter Counties and English Schools cross country championships. On the track she was the 200 metres gold medallist at this year’s County track & field championships. This was her 7th representative outing for the County and she ran in two races, in the 800 metres ‘B’ race she took 6th place and posted a time of 2:26.03 sec and her run of 28.52 sec in the 200 metres ‘B’ saw her finish in 5th.

Holly Adams is a hard working athlete with a real talent for the throwing events she was the shot silver medallist at January’s Northern indoor championships and she won the shot, discus and javelin titles at Mays County Championship meeting. She won her third County vest at this meeting where she competed in the shot and javelin throws, taking 2nd place in the shot ‘A’ with her putt of 9.88 metres and she set a new PB of 27.18 metres in the javelin an increase of 1.94 metres on her previous best throw.

Esther Savage won her second County vest at this meeting the early part of her Kingston career saw her running middle distance and cross country races but in the last 10 months her main focus has been on the javelin event where she has been making steady progress. She competed in the javelin ‘B’ where her throw of 21.26 metres saw her take a 4th place finish.
