Humber Track & Field League  

Quibell Park, Scunthorpe – Sunday 2^nd September 2017

The final Humber track & field league fixture of the 2017 season was staged at Scunthorpe’s Quibell Park stadium on Sunday the 2^nd of September and a number of Kingston upon Hull Ac’s junior athletes made the short trip over the Humber to compete at the meeting.

The under 11 boys were represented by training partners Max Wright and Noah Sibary  and they competed together in the 80metre sprint, the 600 metres race and the long jump competition. The 80 metres saw Noah clip half a second off his previous best hand timed run to set a new PB of 12.0 sec and take victory in the race whilst Max’s run of 14.1 sec gave him a 7^th place finish. In the 600 metres race Noah notched up another win running a time of 1:49.8 sec and Max was the runner up clocking a time of 1:59.6 sec. The long jump event was a closely fought affair with Noah taking 3^rd place with a jump of 3.63 metres and Max 4^th with his leap 3.55 metres, a good result in a field of 12 athletes. Max Wright saw further action in the 150metres sprint race where he took 5^th place and posted a time of 24.2 sec.

The under 13 boys were represented by Finlay Southcoat who competed in three events at the meeting, in the long jump the County long jump bronze medallists leap of 3.35 metres saw him take 2^nd place and another 2^nd place was secured in the shot putt with a throw of 5.86 metres the final event was on the track where he ran in the 800 metres race taking 3^rd place and clocking a time of 2:58.1 sec.

In the under 13 girls competition Libby Hakney was running in the first race of the 100 metres series which was also her first competitive 100 metres race, she was the race winner and ran well setting herself a personal best performance of 14.4 sec. Later in the day Libby was back in action in the 200 metres race where she completed the first sprint double of her young career taking 8 tenths of a second off her previous 200 metres best time and setting a new PB of 30.3 sec. The second of the 100 metres races saw the County 100 metres silver medallist Tilly Cairns who was running in her first competitive race for seven weeks make a winning return and she equalled her personal best performance of 14.9 sec. Two training partners  Izzy Watts and Lydia Moore competed at their first combined events meeting in August where they were in action at the Yorkshire combined events championships in Cudworth where they both competed in a triathlon and they did well, Izzy racked up a points total of 657 and Lydia amassed 641 points. At the Scunthorpe meeting they were in action in the javelin throw and the shot putt, the javelin saw Izzy take 2^nd place with her throw of 12.78 metres and Lydia threw a new PB of 9.50 metres 2.59 metres beyond her previous best mark for 3^rd place. In the shot Izzy’s throw of 6.01 metres saw her take 4^th place with Lydia 5^th with her second new PB of the day of 5.95 metres 1.17 metres past her previous best. Izzy Watts was in further action in the high jump where she took 3^rd place going clear at a new personal best height of 1.20 metres 10 centimetres beyond her previous best. Lydia Moore competed in the long jump event where her best jump of the day was one of 3.31 metres.

Harvey Southcoat competed in three events in the under15 boys competition his day started with the 100 metres sprint where he took 2^nd place in the race and ran a time of 14.0 sec. The 300 metres race saw the County silver medallist taking a 4^th place finish and clock a time of 46.6 sec. Harvey was a 3^rd place finisher in the 800 metres and he covered the two lap race in a time of 2:44.2 sec.

In the under 15 girls events Rosie Shepherd ran in her second 75 metre hurdles race of the season, she has been training for the event this year and has shown some promise, on her previous outing at Grimsby this May she had clocked an electronic time of 17.97 sec, she was the winner of the race at this meeting where she ran more than four seconds quicker to set a new PB of 13.7 sec hand timed. Rosie saw further action in the high jump taking 2^nd place and clearing a season’s best height of 1.45 metres and another second place was taken in the shot event where she threw a new PB of 6.40 metres 97 centimetres further than her previous best. Faye Oliver was in competition in the discus event where a new PB of 23.69 metres, 31 centimetres beyond her previous best mark saw her take victory.

The under 17 men were represented by Robert Tweedale the County and County Schools 400 metres champion who picked up another victory at this meeting running the one lap race in a time of 53.8 sec.
