City of York AC Open Meeting – York University Complex

Eighteen of Kingston upon Hull AC’s junior and youth athletes made the journey to York University’s athletic complex the home track of the City of York club who were hosting their open track and field meeting.

Freya Vidal was the only Kingston athlete in the under 11 age category at the meeting and she was in competition in the 75 metres sprint race and the long jump. She ran in the first of the 75 metre races where she took 2^nd place and her run of 11.51 sec under electronic timing was a new personal best performance. The long jump saw her take a 6^th place finish and her jump of 3.64 metres was just two centimetres short of her PB.

In the under 15 boys competition older brother Fabian Vidal contested the long jump and shot events. The long jump saw him jump a distance of 4.25 metres for a 5^th place finish and he threw a new PB of 7.29 metres in the shot six centimetres beyond his previous best for another 5^th place. Jack Singleton was in action in the 100 metres where he took 2^nd place in the race and his run of 14.09 sec was his fastest run over the distance under electronic timing. Antony Mould was the hammer bronze medallist at the recent Northern Championships in Leigh and he took victory at York with a new PB of 33.73 metres throwing the 4 kg hammer 1.29 metres beyond his medal winning throw at the Northern event, he was also in action in the discus competition finishing in 3^rd place and throwing a distance of 25.13 metres.

In the under 15 girls events County champion Jodie Martin was the winner of the 200 metres sprint race where she ran a time of 28.10 sec, further action came in the 300 metres race where she was a 4^th place finisher and her run of 45.28 sec was her fastest under electronic timing.  The County shot, discus and javelin champion Holly Adams was in action in two of her events, she was the winner of the discus competition where she put out a throw of 27.39 metres and she took 3^rd place in the shot with her putt of 10.12 metres. The County schools champion Indigo Atkin took 3^rd place in the hammer competition where she threw a distance of 32.38 metres and she was a 3^rd place finisher in the shot event with her throw of 8.63 metres.

The under17 mens events saw the Northern sprint hurdles champion Adam Coles running in the 100 metres sprint race where he took 3^rd place and ran his fastest electronic time of 12.01 sec just one hundredth of a second outside his personal best. He was the winner of the 200 metres sprint race where he clipped 0.39 of a second off his best mark running a new PB of 24.04 sec. Another victory was gained in the long jump where he added another 15 centimetres to his best mark jumping a new PB of 6.24 metres. Nathan Cuthbert competed in both of the sprint races taking 5^th place in the 100 metres with his run of 12.55 sec and he finished in 3^rd place finish in the 200 metres where he ran his fastest electronic time of 24.90 sec.

The under 17 women’s events saw heptathlete Venus Morgan in action in three of her disciplines, the 800 metres, high jump and javelin. In the high jump she cleared a height of 1.50 metres for a 3^rd place finish, whilst she was one of three Kingston athletes in the javelin where Becky Chivers took 2^nd place with her throw of 33.75 metres and Paige Mathers 4^th with 30.53 metres and Venus 5^th with 24.21 metres. The 800 metres saw Venus taking 5^th place with her run of 2:32.46 sec and Ella Shaw-Hall was 8^th and her time was 2:50.66 sec.

In the under 20 women’s competition It was good to see Jess Fields back in action where she went in both of the sprint races. The 100 metres saw her running a time of 14.05 sec for a 3^rd place finish and in the 200 metres she took 4^th place and clocked a time of 28.46 sec. The 400 metres featured Natalie Varga who was running in the senior women’s race where she took 3^rd place and clipped 0.94 of a second of her best time to set a new PB of 63.05 sec. Sophie O’Hara was in action in the discus event and the County champion took 2^nd place with  her throw of 33.96 metres. The under 20 women’s javelin saw County schools javelin champion Sian Kerry take 3^rd place with her throw of 24.80 metres.

The under 20 men’s representative was Josh Tranmer who competed in the senior men’s discus event throwing the heavier 2 kg discus, the County champion and English schools finalist took 5^th place in the competition where he launched a throw of 36.78 metres.
