Kingston Young Athletes Open Meeting

Costello Stadium – Saturday 16^th September 2017

The Annual Kingston Young Athletes open meeting was held at the Costello Stadium on Saturday the 16^th of September. This event caters for young athletes aged from 9 to 14 years and is open to all youngsters not just from athletic clubs but for anyone who might wish to give the sport a try. All the clubs based around the River Humber were well represented and there were a good number of boys and girls who were having their first experience of track & field athletics.

The performances of all the Kingston athletes at the meeting are as follows:-

Under 11’s

Freya Vidal is in her final year in the under 11’s and will be moving up to the under 13’s for the 2018 season, she has progressed well this year winning the County 80 metre title in May and has taken seven tenths of a second off her 80 metre best this year. She competed in three events at this meeting winning the first of the 80 metre races in a new personal best time of 12.0 sec, doing the sprint double in the 150 metres with a new PB of 22.9 sec clipping four tenths of a second off her old best and taking a 7^th place in the long jump with a leap of 3.41 metres.

Georgina Smales made her club debut this May at the Cleethorpes open and has also seen action in the Humber track league. She competed in the third of the 80 metre races where she took 5^th place running a time of 13.7 sec and was in further competition in the second of the 150 metre races where her run of 26.7 sec gave her a 6^th place finish.

Noah Sibary was in action in three events, he took 2^nd place in the first of the 80 metre races running a time of 12.1 sec and the County champion was the winner of the 600 metres in a time of 1:52.9 sec and he was a 3^rd place finisher in the long jump with his leap of 3.72 metres.

Will Jolly has been a member of our junior section since April of 2016 and he was the winner of race one of the 150 metres where he recorded a time of 23.4 sec and was a 4^th place finisher in race one the 80 metres, he also competed in the long jump event picking up another 2^nd place with a jump of 3.73 metres.

Twin brothers Luca and Nicolas Atkinson made their club debuts at the meeting running in the 80, 150 and 600 metre races. Luca set a PB of 12.7 sec in race 1 of the 80 metres for an 8^th place finish, whilst Nicolas was 6^th in the second 80 metre race with a PB of 14.3 sec. The boys competed together in the 150 metres with Luca taking 4^th with a PB of 26.2 sec and Nicolas 5^th with a PB of 26.6 sec. They both ran in the 600 metres race where Luca finished 7^th in a PB of 2:09.2 sec and Nicolas 8^th in a PB of 2:10.2 sec.

Max Wright’s three events were 80 metres, 600 metres and long jump, his run of 13.4 sec saw him take 2^nd place in the 80 metres and he took 3^rd place in the 600 race with his run of 1:56.4 sec and his leap of 3.39 metres gave him an 8^th place finish in the long jump

Joseph Wilds made his club debut running in both of the sprint races and also competing in the long jump. The 80 metres saw him taking 5^th place and posting a PB of 14.0 sec and a PB of 25.8 sec in the 150 gave him another 5^th place finish.

Tom Beetham was a 3^rd place finisher in the 150 metres where he posted a time of 25.0 sec and finished 10^th in the 600 metres running a time of 2:15.2 sec

Ben Russell who had his first competitive outing for 12 months set a PB of 2.50 metres in the long jump competition and Joe Noguera who has been training with our junior section since June of this year made his club debut in the first 80 metre race where he took 6^th place and set a PB of 12.8 sec.

Under 13’s

Zach North made his club debut this April at the annual Kingston spring open meeting and he has made good progress which saw him representing the Kingston junior team in league matches in the UK Youth Development league. He was in action at this meeting in the 100 metres and the 75 metre hurdles races. He won both of the races running a time of 14.9 sec in the 100 and setting a new PB of 16.2 sec in the 75 hurdles.

Morgan Cuthbert is in his first competitive season and he made his club debut in the home UK YDL match at Costello this June. He competed in two events at this meeting, taking 2^nd place in the 100 metres where he ran a new PB of 15.3 sec and also took 3^rd place in the javelin where he launched another ne PB of 22.89 metres.

2017 is Finlay Southcoat’s second competitive season he is a good all round athlete who started this year off with the silver medal at the County cross country championships and was in action in all of the junior teams league matches. He took on three events at this open taking 2^nd place in the 200 metres where he ran a time of 31.6 sec and took 4^th place in the 800 metres running 2:40.6 sec and in his first discus competition he took 3^rd place and established a PB of 13.00 metres.

Toby Greensmith is in his second competitive season and he took on three events, the 800 metres, high jump and javelin. His run of 2:37.2 sec in the 800 saw him take a 3^rd place finish and he was the winner of the high jump clearing a height of 1.30 metres, whilst in the javelin he threw a new PB of 20.08 metres 6.28 metres beyond his previous best for 4^th place.

County shot champion Alex Chivers is in his fourth competitive season with the club although the shot was not one of his disciplines here where he chose to test himself in the discus and javelin events. He took 2^nd place in both of the throws registering 16.20 metres with the discus and launching the javelin out to a new personal best 25.11 metres, twenty eight centimetres beyond his previous best.

Libby Hakney made her club debut at the spring open meeting and represented the club in two UK YDL league matches. Her chosen disciplines were the 100 metre and 200 metre sprints where she was seeded to run in the first races of both. The 100 metres saw her take 2^nd place and she ran a time of 14.6 sec another 2^nd place was taken in the 200 metres where she posted a time of 31.7 sec.

Charlotte Lawson was also in action in the 100 and 200 metres, the first time she had run competitively over the distances and she was drawn in the second races of both. She took 5^th place in the 100 and established a PB of 15.8 sec whilst the 200 metres brought her another 5^th place and a PB of 33.6 sec. The long jump event saw Charlotte register a leap of 3.30 metres. Evie-Leigh Williams also ran in the first 100 race taking 6^th place and establishing a PB of 15.8 sec and Evie also ran in the 800 metres taking 8^th place and running a PB of 3:00.2 sec. The second race of the 100 metre series saw two girls who were making their club debuts, Rebecca Westhead was the winner of the race running a time of 14.6 sec and establishing a PB and Ella Frost was the runner up and she also established a PB of 15.0 sec.

Grace Wilds was another debutant at the meeting she has only been training with the club since August and was drawn to run in the second races of both the 100 and 200 metres. She took 2^nd place in the 100 running a PB of 15.1 sec and another PB of 31.0 sec gave her 3^rd place in the 200. Further action came in the high jump where Grace took 3^rd place clearing a height of 1.20 metres another PB.

Anya Beetham was another athlete on debut and she competed in the 200 metres and the 800 metres. She ran a PB of 35.3 sec to take 3^rd place in the 200 and was a 7^th place finisher in the 800 with a PB of 2:59.2 sec. Emma Hoggard is in her second season with the club and this year she competed in two YDL league matches for Kingston, at this meeting she was in competition in the 800 metres race where she took 4^th place and ran a time of 2:53.0 sec.

Lydia Moore is in her second year at Costello she has seen action with the juniors in the YDL this season and her events at this open were long jump and for her first time the discus. The long jump saw her put in a leap of 3.15 metres and she established a PB of 12.77 metres     in taking 3^rd place in the discus. Training partner Izzy Watts threw a new PB of 16.78 metres with the javelin for 2^nd place putting 3.8 metres on her previous best, another PB came in the 100 metres with her run of 15.9 sec and she took 4^th place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.20 metres

Under 15’s

English schools finalist and County and County schools champion Brody Hinson entered for both of the sprint races, he was suffering leg problems on the day but went ahead with his 100 metre race where he took 2^nd place and ran a time 11.6 sec. He was unable to run in the 200 metres and had to pull out of the race.

Harvey Southcoat ran in the 100, 200 and 800 metre races, the 100 saw him take 5^th place and record a time of 14.1 sec. In the 200 metres he ran a new personal best performance of 28.7 sec for 4^th place and a good run of 2:37.3 sec in the 800 metres saw him take a 2^nd place finish.

Harry Hudson is in his first competitive season with Kingston and the County schools 800 metre champion this time took on the 1500 metre race which he won running a time of 4:37.0 sec.

This is Jack Singleton’s second competitive year with the club he was the 75 metre hurdles silver medallist at the 2016 County championships and he ran in the 80 metre hurdles at this meeting where he was the race winner running a new personal best performance of 14.5 sec clipping four tenths of a second off his previous best.

Antony Mould is in his second competitive season and he has made some good progress this year, he was the hammer bronze medallist at the Northern championships and he won discus bronze at the County championships. The discus was his focus at this meeting and he put out a new PB of 28.11 metres, 2.11 metres beyond his previous mark to win the event.

Fabian Vidal also competed in the discus event and he too threw a new PB of 15.60 metres to take 3^rd place and he was also in action in the long jump competition where he took a 4^th place finish with his leap of 4.22 metres.

UK ranked number 2 Ben Copley was in competition in the javelin event where he was hoping to claim back the national number 1 spot in his last track & field outing of the season but his hopes were dashed by the rain and wind which arrived during his competition and despite a huge throw of 52.33 metres he was unable to reach his target.

The County 75 metre hurdles silver medallist Rowan Swinburn and the County schools bronze medallist Lauren McClean went head to head in the 75 hurdles race, Rowan took the honours on this occasion running a new PB of 12.8 sec clipping half a second off her previous best whilst Lauren took 2^nd place in the race with her run of 13.5 sec. Lauren saw further action in the high jump where she took 2^nd place and equalled her PB of 1.40 metres whilst Emilia Russell was 3^rd and she also cleared a height of 1.40 metres going ten centimetres ahead of her previous best height.

County and County schools shot, discus and javelin champion Holly Adams was in action in two of her events, her throw of 22.06 metres with the javelin gave her a 2^nd place finish and she was the winner of the discus where she set a new PB of 28.64 metres adding another fifty one centimetres to her old mark. Jess Townsend the Northern championships bronze medallist was also in competition in the discus event and she took 2^nd place with her throw of 23.31 metres.

Five Kingston athletes took part in the long jump event which was won by the County bronze medallist Emily Dye who has been jumping really well this year, she was the winner  of the competition and jumped a new PB of 4.91 metres an increase of 10 centimetres on her previous mark. Evie Watson took 4^th place and she put in a season’s best effort of 4.60 metres and Ellie Townsend took 6^th with her jump of 4.30 metres with Emilia Russell 8^th with a new PB of 4.11 metres 14 centimetres past her previous best and Ella Shaw-Hall added 10 centimetres to her old best with her leap of 3.63 metres for 9^th place.
