Sale Harriers Indoor Open Meeting

Sport City Manchester – Sunday 25th February 2018

Three Kingston athletes were in action at the latest of the Sale Harriers indoor open meetings at the Sport City stadium, on the Etihad complex in Manchester.

Under 15 athlete Pippa Gouldson made her club debut in May last year at a Humber track league fixture at the Costello stadium and she also competed in open meetings in Hull and Grimsby. Further action in her debut year came in both the English Schools Athletic Associations track & field cup and cross country cup competitions. Her first outing of 2018 took her to Manchester for the Sale Harriers indoor open, where she chose to compete in her first ever 60 metres sprint race and her first indoor 200 metres sprint. She was drawn in race 26 of the 60 metre series where she took 5th place running a time of 9.19 sec to establish a personal best performance for the distance. She was drawn in race 31 of the 200 metres series where a season’s best run of 30.75 sec gave her a 4th place finish.

Under 17 athlete Kai Greaves had made his club debut at Januarys Sale Harriers Open where he ran in the 60 metres sprint event and established a PB of 7.83 sec. At the February meeting his chosen events were the 60 metre sprints and high jump competitions. He was drawn in race 19 of the 60 metres where he took 2nd place and ran a new PB of 7.70 sec, clipping 0.13 of a second off the PB time he had set at January’s meeting. The high jump was Kai’s competitive debut in the event and he was one of 20 jumpers in the competition. A clearance at a height of 1.45 metres established a PB and secured him a 7th place finish.

Kai’s coach, senior athlete Sonia Santos is a specialist hurdler over both the 100 and 400 metre distances. For her first outing of 2018 she chose to test herself over the 60 metres hurdles for the first time in her career. She ran in the senior women’s race where she took 3rd  place and established a new PB of 9.49 sec.
