Doncaster AC Open Meeting

On Sunday the 31st of March four of Kingston’s junior athletes travelled to the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster to compete at the Doncaster Athletic Clubs Open Track and Field meeting.
The under11 girl’s competition saw Georgina Smales make her first appearance of the brand new track & field season. She made her club debut in May 2017 at the Cleethorpes open, and was in action in the Humber track league and at open meetings throughout last summer. At this meeting she ran in her first 75 metre sprint race where she took 2nd place and established a PB 13.51 sec for the distance.
Another under 11’s athlete, Lydia Greenwood made her club debut at this Doncaster meeting, where she opted to run in the 600 metres race. She was a 6th place finisher in the race and established a PB of 2:21.82 sec for the distance.
Thomas Smales made his first track & field appearance of 2018 in the under 15 boy’s competition. He was coming off the back of an outstanding cross country season where he had put in excellent performances at the highest level, at the National Inter Counties, the English Schools championships, Northern Counties and the County championships. He was in action in the second race of the 800 metre series which saw him take 4th in the race, running a new PB of 2:19.32 sec, slashing 9.35 seconds off his previous best time.
Hurdles specialist Jack Singleton has been keeping himself busy on the indoor circuit over the last 3 months. He was a 60 metre hurdles finalist at February’s Northern indoor championship meeting where he took 5th place in the under 15 Boy’s final. He was in competition at Doncaster in the 80 metre hurdles and the 200 metre sprint race. He was the winner of the 80 metre hurdles running a season’s best time of 14.87 sec. He went in race 2 of the 200 metre series where he took 2nd place and ran a time of 28.33 sec.
The England under 18 discus champion Josh Tranmer had his first competitive outing since last September. He has been working hard on strength and conditioning with his coach Dave Bennett throughout the autumn and winter months. There are no long throws in indoor competitions in the UK for safety reasons. He was in competition in the under 20 men’s discus throw, taking 2nd place with a season’s best effort of 43.04 metres.
