UK Youth Development League – Division North East 1 – Match Two
Woodbourn Road, Sheffield – Sunday 27th May 2018
The Kingston youth teams second league match of the 2018 track & field season, took them to Woodbourn Road in Sheffield, the home track of Sheffield & Dearne AC. The other four clubs contesting the match in the 6 team division were, Chesterfield & District AC, Doncaster AC, Middlesbrough Mandale and Rotherham Harriers.
Performances of all the Kingston athletes at Sheffield are as follows.
Under 20 Men
Adam Coles was the team’s representative in the 100 metre sprints, where he was the 4th place finisher in the ‘A’ race and ran a time of 11.94 sec. He was in further action in his main event, winning the 110 metre hurdles ‘A’ race, posting a time of 16.06 sec. He also took 2nd place in the long jump ‘A’ with a leap of 6.11 metres. Robert Tweedale took 3rd place in the 400 metres ‘A’ race, running a time of 52.36 sec. The 800 metres saw a Kingston double victory, with Kyle Foster winning the ‘A’ and covering the two lap race in 2:04.21 sec whilst Jack Brothwell was the winner of the ‘B’ with his season’s best run of 2:08.91 sec. The 1500 metres saw Baldvin Magnusson winning the ‘A’ with his season’s best run of 4:11.84 sec and Jack Brothwell made it a second double of the day, winning the ‘B’ in 4:14.65 sec. Baldvin was back in action in 3000 metres ‘A’, putting in another season’s best performance of 9:27.91 sec to win the race. Jack also competed on the field taking 5th place in the discus ‘A’ throwing a new PB of 14.78 metres, an improvement of 1.7 metres. Freddie Capes took 2nd place in the high jump ‘A’ going clear at a height of 1.60 metres. Shaun Kerry the UK No.1 ranked under 17 hammer thrower, competed out of his age group, in the under 20’s shot and javelin. He took 2nd place in the shot, throwing a new PB of 12.92 metres with the heavier 6kg shot, losing out to the Northern indoor and Yorkshire under 20 champion Leo Rowley. He was the winner of the javelin event, throwing the heavier 800 gram javelin for the first time, he launched it out to 39.23 metres and established a PB.
Under 20 Women
The 100 metre sprints were covered by Gabrielle Whittle and Jessica Fields. Gabrielle was the 4th place finisher in the ‘A’ race running a time of 13.60 sec, with Jessica also taking 4th place in the ‘B’ with her run of 13.79 sec. the 200 metre sprints saw Gabrielle taking 5th place in the ‘A’ posting a time 27.94 sec. Natalie Varga ran the ‘B’ taking 3rd place with her run of 28.67 sec. Bryony Underwood took 3rd place in the 400 metres ‘A’ running a time of 64.41 sec. Jessica Fields was the winner of the 400 metres ‘B’ running a time of 65.26 sec. Natalie Varga saw further action in the 400 metre hurdles ‘A’ taking 2nd place with her season’s best run of 71.23 sec. Lucy Savery was the winner of the 400 hurdles ‘B’ with her run of 80.24 sec. On the field under 17 Ellie Townsend was in action in the under 20’s high jump, she cleared a new PB height of 1.63 metres, an improvement of 8 cm, the same height as the competition winner, Charlotte Kerr of Rotherham but Ellie was placed 2nd on count back. Gina De Lancey competed in her first long jump event for 3 years, taking 4th place in the ‘A’ with a new PB of 4.42 metres, an improvement of 65 centimetres. Olivia Stevenson was the winner of the hammer with her season’s best throw of 55.79 metres. Olivia was also in action in the shot putt, taking 5th place in the ‘A’ with a throw of 8.55 metres. The javelin competition saw Harriet Cannell take a 2nd place finish in the ‘A’ throwing a new PB of 33.56 metres, an improvement of 19 cm.
Under 17 Men
In the 100 metre sprints Sam Croney took 6th place in the ‘A’ running a time of 12.98 sec, in the ‘B’ Joshua Parker was also a 6th place finisher and his recorded time was 12.89 sec. The 200 metre sprints saw Nathan Cuthbert taking 2nd place in the ‘A’ running a new PB of 24.06 sec, an improvement of 0.47 sec. Joshua Parker took 5th place in the 400 metres ‘A’ race and posted a time of 58.84 sec. Callum Featherstone running in his first 400 metre race was the winner of the ‘B’ and he established a PB of 55.89 sec. Harry Hudson took 2nd place in the 800 metres ‘A’ where he ran a new PB of 2:03.55 sec, an improvement of 3.09 sec. In the ‘B’ Callum Featherstone was the winner of the race with his season’s best run of 2:10.99 sec. Harvey Roberts took 2nd place in the 3000 metres ‘A’ race where he ran a time of 10:09.00 sec. Ben Copley the reigning England discus and javelin champion was in action in the shot, discus and javelin events. He was the winner of the shot ‘A’ where he established a PB of 12.53 metres with the heavier 5 kg shot. Nathan Cuthbert was the winner of the ‘B’ throwing a new PB of 10.80 metres, an improvement of 64 cm. The discus ‘A’ saw Ben take a second victory, throwing a new PB of 44.75 metres, an improvement of 47 cm. Antony Mould was the winner of the discus ‘B’ with his throw of 24.24 metres. Ben completed a hat trick of victories in the javelin ‘A’, throwing a new PB of 52.68 metres, an improvement of 1.43 metres. Nathan won the javelin ‘B’ with his season’s best throw of 40.17 metres. Back in his own age group, in the under 17’s hammer ‘A’, Shaun Kerry threw a new PB of 66.76 metres, an improvement of 2.06 metres, the biggest throw in the UK this year. Antony Mould was the winner of the ‘B’ where he too threw a new PB of 38.33 metres, an improvement of 3.41 metres.
Under 17 women
Alanah Thoresby and Gina De Lancey competed in the 100 metre sprint races. Alanah took 3rd place in the ‘A’ race running a time of 13.75 sec, with Gina taking 4th in the ‘B’ with her run of 14.01 sec. Jodie Martin was the teams representative in the in the 300 metres ‘A’ where she was the 2nd place finisher and ran a time of 42.54 sec. Jodie returned to action later in the afternoon in the 800 metres ‘A’ and the County champion was the race winner running a new PB of 2:17.49 sec, an improvement of 2.46 sec. Becky Chivers took 2nd place in the 80 metre hurdles ‘A’ running a time of 13.52 sec, and Abbie Haigh was the winner of the hurdles ‘B’ with her run of 14.40 sec. Alanah was in further competition in the high jump where she was the winner of the ‘A’, clearing a height of 1.50 metres. Rosie Shepherd was the winner of the ‘B’, going clear at a height of 1.40 metres. Abbie and Rosie were paired in the triple jump, which saw Abbie win the ‘A’ with her leap of 10.18 metres and Rosie won the ‘B’ with her jump of 9.70 metres. In the long jump Abbie Haigh took 5th place in the ‘A’ with 4.46 metres and Emily Dye took 3rd in the ‘B’ with 4.44 metres. Jess and Ellie Townsend were in competition together in the hammer, where Jess took 5th place in the ‘A’ with her season’s best throw of 18.75 metres, and Ellie was 3rd in the ‘B’ with her season’s best of 15.22 metres. Becky Chivers was the winner of the javelin ‘A’ with her throw of 36.79 metres, with Gina De Lancey winning the ‘B’ and throwing a new PB of 22.28 metres, an improvement of 5.9 metres. Jess Townsend took 5th place in the discus ‘A’ with her throw of 23.71 metres and Faye Oliver took 2nd place in the ‘B’ with her season’s best throw of 22.31 metres. Jess was the 6th place finisher in the shot ‘A’ with her putt of 6.35 metres, and Emily Dye took 4th place in the ‘B’, her first competition with the 3 kg shot establishing a PB of 6.09 metres.
RELAYS
Under 20 Men – 4x 100 metres
The Kingston team of Adam Coles, Nathan Cuthbert, Kyle Foster and Robert Tweedale took 4th place and they ran a time of 47.14 sec.
Under 20 Women – 4 x 100 metres
The Kingston quartet consisted of, Gabrielle Whittle, Faye Oliver, Bryony Underwood and Becky Chivers, who took 4th place and posted a time of 55.43 sec.
Under 17 Men – 4 x 100 metres
The four runners in the under 17’s were, Joshua Parker, Callum Featherstone, Shaun Kerry and Harry Hudson, who ran a season’s best time of 49.71 sec.
Under 17 Women – 4 x 100 metres
The Kingston foursome were, Alanah Thoresby, Ellie Townsend, Gina De Lancey and Emily Dye, who took 3rd place running a season’s best time of 53.70 sec.
Under 20 Men – 4 x 400 metres
The Kingston team of, Kyle Foster, Harvey Roberts, Harry Hudson and Callum Featherstone took 2nd place running a season’s best time of 3:43.59 sec.
Under 20 Women – 4 x 400 metres
The Kingston team of, Bryony Underwood, Becky Chivers, Lucy Savery and Natalie Varga took 2nd place and ran a season’s best time of 4:26.82 sec.
Under 17 Women – 4 x 300 metres
The Kingston quartet of, Abbie Haigh, Rosie Shepherd, Emily Dye and Jodie Martin took 2nd place and ran a season’s best time of 3:04.28 sec.
