UK Youth Development League – Division North East 1
Middlesbrough, Sunday 1st July 2018
The Kingston youth teams final league match of the season was held at the Middlesbrough Sports Village, the home track of Middlesbrough Mandale AC. The other teams contesting the match were City of Sheffield & Dearne, Doncaster AC, Rotherham Harriers and Chesterfield AC. The team that topped the league at the end of this match would be promoted to Premier Division 2 and the 5th and 6th placed teams would be relegated to North East 2. Kingston put up a good fight on the day, but were pipped at the post by the Doncaster team and finished the season in 5th place, looking at relegation, along with Chesterfield to Division North East 2 for 2019.
Details of the performances of all the Kingston upon Hull athletes are as follows
Under 20’s
Sprints
Josh Sampson was the ‘A’ runner in the 100 metres where he took 2nd place running a new PB of 11.3 sec, an improvement of a tenth of a second. Adam Coles was the ‘B’ runner and he also took a 2nd place finish running a new PB of 11.4 sec, an improvement of 3 tenths. The womens 100 metres saw Venus Morgan equal her PB of 12.6 sec to take 2nd place in the ‘A’. In the ‘B’ Rose Hewitt ran her seasons best time of 13.7 sec for a 5th place finish. The mens 200 metres saw Josh Sampson take 2nd place in the ‘A’ with his run of 23.1 sec, with Robert Tweedale running a seasons best time of 24.5 sec for 4th place in the ‘B’. In the womens 200 metres ‘A’ Natalie Varga took a 5th place finish recording time of 28.7 sec. In the ‘B’ Jess Fields took a 3rd place finish running her seasons best time of 28.4 sec. In the mens 400 metres Robert Tweedale took 3rd place in the ‘A’ with his seasons best run of 51.3 sec. Jess Fields was the winner of the womens 400 metres ‘A’ race where she clocked a time of 65.4 sec.
Middle Distance
The mens 800 metres ‘A’ race saw Kyle Foster taking 3rd place running a time of 2:00.3 sec Baldvin Magnusson was the winner of the 800 ‘B’ running his seasons best time of 2:02.8 sec. Jack Brothwell took 2nd place in the mens 1500 metres running a time of 4:19.3 sec.
Distance
Baldvin Magnusson was the winner of the mens 3000 metres ‘A’ race, covering the 7 and a half laps in 9:50.2 sec.
Hurdles
Adam Coles was the winner of the mens 110 metre hurdles ‘A’ running a new PB of 15.7 sec, his fastest hand timed run. The womens 100 metre hurdles ‘A’ saw Venus Morgan take a 2nd place finish running a time of 15.0 sec. Natalie Varga ran her seasons best time of 70.3 sec in the womens 400 metre hurdles ‘A’ for a 2nd place finish.
Jumps
The mens long jump ‘A’ saw Adam Coles leap to a new PB of 6.27 metres, an improvement of 2cm, for a 2nd place finish. Venus Morgan was the winner of the womens long jump ‘A’ with her leap of 5.11 metres.
Throws
Ollie Stevenson was in action in the womens hammer and shot competitions. She was the winner of the womens hammer ‘A’ with her throw of 53.51 metres and was 4th in the shot putt ‘A’ with her seasons best throw of 9.13 metres. Josh Tranmer threw a seasons best distance of 12.49 metres in the mens shot ‘A’ for a 2nd place finish. He was also the winner of the discus ‘A’ with his throw of 44.72 metres. Harriet Cannell was the winner of the women’s javelin ‘A’ with her throw of 32.24 metres. Venus Morgan was the winner of the javelin ‘B’ with her best effort of 25.91 metres. In the mens javelin ‘A’ under 17 athlete Shaun Kerry was the winner of the competition throwing a new PB of 41.15 metres, an improvement of 24 cm.
Under 17’s
Sprints
Nathan Cuthbert was the ‘A’ runner in the mens 100 metres where he ran a PB of 11.5 sec, his fastest hand timed run. In the womens 100 metres Emily Dye took 4th place in the ‘A’ and she too ran a PB, her fastest hand time of 13.3 sec. Rose Hewitt took 5th place in the womens ‘B’ where she ran her seasons best time of 13.7 sec. In the mens 200 metres ‘A’ Nathan Cuthbert took a 5th place finish, running a new PB of 23.6 sec, an improvement of half a sec. Callum Featherstone took 2nd place in the mens 400 metres ‘A’ running a PB of 11.5 sec, his fastest hand timed run. Jodie Martin took 2nd place in the womens 300 metres ‘A’ running a new PB of 41.8 sec, an improvement of 3 tenths of a sec.
Middle Distance
The mens 800 metres ‘A’ saw Harry Hudson take 2nd place in the race running a time of 2:03.2 sec. Callum Featherstone was the winner of the ‘B’ clocking a time of 2:09.5 sec. In the womens 800 metres Jodie Martin was the winner of the ‘A’ race running a time of 2:21.5 sec. Becky Chivers took 2nd place in the ‘B’ with her run of 2:47.8 sec.
Distance
Harvey Roberts was the 2nd place finisher in the mens 3000 metres race running a time of 10:15.2 sec.
Hurdles
Henry Cannell ran in the 100 metre hurdles ‘A’ race, his first time over the distance. He took 2nd place and established a PB of 15.2 sec. In the womens 80 metre hurdles Becky Chivers took 4th place in the ‘A’ running a time of 14.5 sec. Rosie Shepherd ran in the ‘B’ race where she took 3rd place running a PB of 13.5 sec, her fastest hand time. Rosie also took on her first 300 metre hurdles race, running in the ‘A’ she took 3rd place and established a PB of 51.6 sec.
Jumps
Rosie Shepherd was the only Kingston high jumper in action at Middlesbrough. She was in competition in the ‘A’ where she took 2nd place and cleared a height of 1.45 metres. In the womens long jump Emily Dye took 2nd place in the ‘A’ clearing a height of 4.84 metres. In the mens triple jump Henry Cannell, in his first competitive outing in the event, was the winner of the ‘A’ and established a PB of 11.40 metres.
Throws
The mens shot saw Shaun Kerry win the ‘A’ throwing a new PB of 14.25 metres, an improvement of 37cm. Ben Copley was the winner of the ‘B’ with his throw of 12.08 metres. Emily Dye took 6th place in the womens shot ‘A’ throwing a new PB of 6.46 metres, an improvement of 37cm. Ben Copley was the winner of the mens discus ‘A’ with his throw of 43.53 metres and Antony Mould was the winner of the ‘B’ with a throw of 26.04 metres. The womens discus saw Faye Oliver take 3rd place in the ‘A’ where she threw a new PB of 24.40 metres, an improvement of 71cm. Jess Townsend was the winner of the ‘B’ with her throw of 24.05 metres. Shaun Kerry was winner of the mens hammer, ‘A’ throwing a distance of 66.41 metres. Antony Mould was the winner of the ‘B’ with his throw of 37.35 metres. In the womens hammer Jess Townsend took 4th place in the ‘A’ with her throw of 18.55 metres. Ben Copley was the winner of the mens javelin ‘A’ launching it out to 50.40 metres, Nathan Cuthbert was the winner of the ‘B’ throwing a new PB of 42.58 metres, an improvement of 2.41 metres. Becky Chivers took 2nd place in the womens javelin ‘A’ with her throw of 32.99 metres.

4 x 100 Metres
The Kingston quartet of Jodie Martin, Faye Oliver, Rosie Shepherd and Emily Dye took 4th place and they ran a time of 54.9 sec.
Under 17 Men
4 x 100 metres
The Kingston team of Ben Copley, Shaun Kerry, Nathan Cuthbert and Henry Cannell took 3rd place and ran a seasons best time of 3:46.5 sec
Under 20 Women
4 x 100 Metres
The Kingston foursome of Rose Hewitt, Becky Chivers, Jess Fields and Venus Morgan also ran a seasons best time of 53.0 sec for a 4th place finish.
Under 20 Men
4 x 400 Metres
The Kingston team of Harvey Roberts, Callum Featherstone, Harry Hudson and Kyle Foster took 4th place and ran a time of 3:49.9 sec.
