The Kingston senior team’s third league match brought a journey to the Yarborough stadium in Lincoln, the home track of the Lincoln Wellington club. The other four teams competing in the match were Derby AC, Rotherham Harriers, Chesterfield AC and Hallamshire Harriers. It was a very hot day with temperatures in the high 20’s and extreme humidity. The team once again was a mix of senior athletes, augmented by some of the clubs outstanding under 17’s and under20’s from the youth team. The team was weakened by several late withdrawals due to injuries. Kingston arrived at Lincoln as the division leaders, having won the opening two matches. They were fully aware that it was going to take a huge effort to hold on to the top spot.
The team finished in 3rd place on the day and picked up 4 league points, taking their total to 16 points. Holding on to the league leadership, with Derby in 2nd on 15, Rotherham 3rd with 14, Hallamshire 4th on 7, Chesterfield 5th on 6 and Lincoln in 6th on 5 points. The final match will take place at the Herringthorpe Stadium in Rotherham, on Saturday the 4th of August, where the championship will be decided between Kingston upon Hull, Derby AC and Rotherham Harriers. The other three teams cannot pick up enough league points on the day to challenge.
Performances by all of the Kingston athletes on the day are as follows
Sprints
The mens 100 metres saw Josh Sampson winning the ‘A’ race running a time of 11.37 sec. Philip May took 3rd place in the ‘B’ running a new PB of 12.24 sec, an improvement of six hundredths of a second. Megan Hoult was the winner of the womens 100 ‘A’ clocking a time of 12.76 sec. Sonia Santos ran her seasons best time of 13.17 sec in the ‘B’ for a 2nd place finish. Josh Sampson took 2nd place in the mens 200 metres ‘A’ running a time of 23.18 sec. Adam Coles was the 2nd place finisher in the ‘B’ with his run of 24.08 sec. in the womens 200 ‘A’ Megan Hoult took 4th place in a recorded time of 27.45 sec. 16 year old Emily Dye ran the 200 ‘B’ taking 4th place and posting a time of 28.82 sec. In the womens 400 metres ‘A’ Bryony Underwood took 4th place running a time of 64.36 sec.
Middle Distance
The mens 800 metres saw Jack Brothwell running his seasons best time of 2:03.54 sec in the ‘A’ for a 4th place finish. In the ‘B’ 16 year old Harry Hudson was the race winner running a new PB of 2:00.43 sec, an improvement of 2.64 sec. Masters athlete Sharon Tummons made her track debut in the womens 800 metres ‘A’, taking 6th place and establishing a PB of 3:20.49 sec. The mens 1500 metres was the race of the two Harrys. Harry Powell took 3rd place in the ‘A’ running a time of 4:09.78 sec and Harry Hudson was the 2nd place finisher in the ‘B’ with his run of 4:15.74 sec.
Distance
The oppressive heat and humidity made things difficult for the distance runners. The mens 5000 metres ‘A’ saw Harry Powell in control of the race from gun to finish line, he handled the conditions well winning the race in a time of 15:45.81 sec. Sharon Tummons was in further action in the womens 3000 metres ‘A’ where she took 5th place and established a PB of 14:36.00 sec. The mens 3000 metres steeplechase ‘A’ saw Jack Brothwell, who was running this event for the first time take 3rd place in the race ad establish a PB of 10:54.63 sec. Simon Downs ran in the steeplechase ‘B’ taking 2nd place and running a time of 12:01.58 sec.
Hurdles
The womens 100 metre hurdles ‘A’ saw Sonia Santos run a very good race to take victory running a time of 16.85 sec. Simon Downs took 4th place in the mens 110 metre hurdles ‘A’ running a time of 23.09 sec. There was further hurdles action for Simon in the mens 400 metres ‘A’, where he took 4th place and ran a new PB of 71.52 sec, an improvement of 3.98 sec. In the 400 hurdles ‘B’ Philip May made his debut run in the event taking a 3rd place finish and establishing a PB of 72.27 sec.
Jumps
16 year old Abbie Haigh took 3rd place in the womens high jump ‘A’ going clear at a new PB height of 1.50 metres, an improvement of 8cm. Emily Dye was the winner of the ‘B’ going clear at her PB height of 1.30 metres. Simon Downs took 5th place in the mens high jump ‘A’ with a clearance at 1.50 metres. The womens long jump also featured Abbie and Emily. Emily Dye took 4th place in the ‘A’ with her jump of 4.58 metres and Abbie Haigh took 2nd place in the ‘B’ with 4.24 metres. In the mens long jump Adam Coles was the winner of the ‘A’ with his leap of 5.99 metres and James Wardle took 3rd place in the ‘B’ with 5.52 metres. The mens pole vault saw Simon Downs take 4th place in the ‘A’ clearing a height of 2.30 metres. The mens triple jump saw James Wardle take 3rd place in the ‘A’ with a jump of 11.89 metres. Philip May was the winner of the ‘B’ with 11.48 metres. In the womens triple jump Abbie Haigh was the winner of the ‘A’ with her jump of 9.82 metres.
Throws
John Twiddle was the winner of the mens shot ‘A’ competition throwing a distance of 12.34 metres. Simon Downs took 4th place in the ‘B’ with his throw of 7.51 metres. Sian Kerry was the winner of the womens shot ‘A’ with her throw of 7.38 metres. Paige Mathers made her shot debut in the ‘B’ taking 3rd place and establishing a PB of 7.05 metres.
John Twiddle put in a seasons best throw of 35.25 metres in the mens discus ‘A’. Whilst In the ‘B’ Pete Smith took 2nd place with his throw of 33.61 metres. Ollie Stevenson threw her seasons best of 29.59 metres in womens discus ‘A’ for a 3rd place finish and Sian Kerry took 4th place in the ‘B’ with her seasons best throw of 17.18 metres. Pete Smith took 2nd place in the mens hammer ‘A’ with his throw of 53.25 metres. John Twiddle was the winner of the hammer ‘B’ where he threw 40.26 metres. Ollie Stevenson was the winner of the womens hammer ‘A’ with her throw of 52.68 metres. Sian Kerry took 4th place in the ‘B’ with 19.13 metres. Simon Downs took 4th place in the mens javelin ‘A’ launching it out to 38.44 metres. The womens javelin ‘A’ saw Paige Mathers take 2nd place throwing a new PB of 28.70 metres, an improvement of 2.25 metres. Sian Kerry put in a seasons best throw of 27.09 metres for 2nd place in the ‘B’.

The Kingston quartet of Paige Mathers, Megan Hoult, Sonia Santos and Emily Dye took 6th place in the race running a time of 60.90 sec.

The Kingston girls team of Megan Hoult, Bryony Underwood, Abbie Haigh and Emily Dye took 4th place and ran a time of 4:32.29 sec.
Men
4 x 100 Metres
The mens team of Adam Coles, James Wardle, Philip May and Josh Sampson took 2nd place running a time of 46.50 sec.

The mens team of Adam Coles, Harry Hudson, Josh Sampson and Philip May finished in 6th place and ran a time of 4:05.7 sec.
