Three Kingston athletes were in action at the City of York open meeting, at the athletics track on the York University complex.

Connor Pickering has enjoyed a good track & field season this year. He was a medallist in three events at May’s County championships, winning bronze medals in both the shot and the long jump events. He was the gold medallist in the javelin throw, his strongest throwing event. At July’s Northern championships he was the shot putt bronze medallist. September saw him in competition at the Inter Counties match. This York meeting brought down the curtain, on the 2018 track & field season. Connor was in action in the 100 metre sprints, shot and javelin events. He was drawn to run in the 5th race of the 100 metres series, where he was the 5th place finisher, running a time of 13.86 sec. The shot saw him take 2nd place with a throw of 10.89 metres. He was the winner of the javelin competition, launching it out to a distance of 34.74 metres.

Tonisha Pickering, younger sister of Connor, has been competing with the Kingston junior team, in the UK Youth Development league, throughout this year. She has also been in action in the Humber track league and at open meetings. She too chose to do three events, the 100 metre sprints, long jump and the 70 metre hurdles race. She was drawn in the third of the 100 metre series, where she took a 5th place finish, running her best electronic time of 16.22 sec. In the long jump, her leap of 3.76 metres, gave her an 11th place finish. Tonisha was drawn to run in race 3 of the 70 metres hurdles, she had made her debut appearance in the hurdles just a week earlier, in the Humber track league. She was the winner of the race, running a new PB of 13.93 sec, an improvement of 0.17 of a second.

Antony Mould is in his third year of competition with Kingston. He is a thrower who covers the hammer, shot and discus. He is a member of the youth team and competes with them, in the UK Youth development league. He was the hammer bronze medallist, for the second consecutive year, at the 2018 Northern championships. He also took the hammer silver at the County championships. He was the winner of the hammer at the York meeting, throwing a distance of 39.14 metres.
