Denis Lumbard Memorial Open Meeting

King George V Stadium, Grimsby  –  Saturday 29th September 2018

Eighteen Kingston athletes travelled over to the King George V Stadium in Grimsby, to compete at the Grimsby Harriers final open meeting of 2018.  This was one of the last chances, for athletes to improve their PB’s, or set a new season’s best performance. The new cross country season was on the horizon. There would be no more track & field competitions until the spring of 2019.

Performance details for all of the Kingston athletes are as follows

Under 11’s

Amelia Fraser made her club debut, this May, at the Grimsby open meeting. She has competed in her first year, in open meetings and in the Humber track league. Her chosen events at this meeting were the 80 metre and 150 metre sprints and the long jump. Drawn to run in heat one of the 80 metres, she took 5th place in the race, running a new PB of 13.9 sec, an improvement of 2 tenths, which secured her a place in the final. She ran another new PB in the final, clipping another two tenths off her best time, to take 8th place, setting a new PB of 13.9 sec. Amelia was drawn in heat one of the 150 metres, where her run of 28.0 sec, for 5th place wasn’t enough to get her into a second final. The long jump event saw her take 15th place, with her leap of 2.59 metres.

Holly Mauer made her club debut at the Kingston September open meeting. This Grimsby meeting marked only her second competition. Her chosen events were the 150 metre sprints and the long jump. She was drawn in heat 2 of the 150 metres, where she took 5th place in the race, running a new PB of 25.5 sec, an improvement of one tenth of a second. However she missed the cut for the final. In the long jump event she took 17th place, jumping  a new PB of 2.42 metres, an improvement of 2cm.

Megan Wright, made her debut appearance for Kingston, this June, in the Humber track league. She was in action at this Grimsby meeting in two events, the 600 metres race and the long jump. In the 600 metres race, she was the 2nd place finisher, running a time of 2:19.5 sec. The long jump saw Megan take 14th place, putting in a leap of 2.84 metres.

Under 13’s

William Rusling debuted at this year’s Kingston spring open. Through this year he has gained experience in the Humber track league and other open meetings. He was in action in the 100 metres sprints in Grimsby, where he was drawn to run in the opening heat. He took 5th place in the heat, running a time of 15.6 sec, an improvement of six tenths of a second, which booked him a place in the final. He took 8th place in the 100 metre final, clocking a time of 15.8 sec. He was in further action in the long jump, where he took 20th place, jumping a new PB of 3.33 metres, an improvement of 5cm.

Max Wright is in his second year with the club. He won his first County vest this year, and has represented the Kingston junior team, in all of their 2018 league matches. He ran in the 800 metres race at Grimsby, where he took a 3rd place finish and ran a time of 2:42.5 sec. In the long jump, he produced a season’s best leap of 3.48 metres, for 17th place. He saw further action in the senior men’s high jump competition where he took 8th place, going clear at a new PB height of 1.33 metres, an improvement of 8cm.

Toby Greensmith is in his 3rd year of competition. He won high jump gold and 100 metres bronze, at this year’s county championships. He competes with the junior team, in the UK YDL league and won his first County vest, this September. At this event He was in action in the 75 metres hurdles race and the javelin throw. He was the winner of the 75 hurdles race, running a new PB of 13.9 sec, an improvement of two tenths of a second. He picked up his second victory of the day in the javelin, with a throw of 26.67 metres. He also competed in the senior men’s high jump, taking a 6th place finish, with his clearance at a new PB height of 1.42 metres. An improvement of 2cm.

Zach Wilkinson is in his second year with the club. He has competed in the Humber track league, as well as other open meetings, during this track & field season. He was in action in the javelin throw at this event, where he launched a new PB of 18.57 metres, an improvement of 69cm, to take 2nd place in the competition.

Sprinters and training partners Tilly Cairns and Libby Hakney, were in action in both the 100 and 200 metre sprint competitions. Tilly was drawn to run in heat 1 of the 100 metres, where she was the race winner, running a time of 13.7 sec. Libby was the winner of heat 2, where she clocked a time of 14.2 sec. Both girls qualified to run in the final. In the 100 metre final, Tilly ran the race in 13.7 sec, the same time as her heat, to take the victory. The 200 metres competition saw Tilly drawn again in the first of the heat’s, she was the winner of the race, running a time of 29.5 sec. Libby took 2nd place in heat 2, where she posted a time of 30.5 sec. Both girls safely qualified for the final. Tilly however was unable to run in the final, leaving Libby to fly the Kingston flag alone. Libby took 2nd place in the final, running a time of 30.4 sec.

Two more training partners Izzy Watts and Lydia Moore, went head to head in both the long jump and shot competitions. It ended all square with Izzy winning the shot event, where she threw a new PB of 8.74 metres, an improvement of 8cm. Lydia took 2nd place in the shot event, where she too threw a new PB of 8.11 metres, an improvement of 5cm. Lydia took 2nd place in the long jump, leaping to a new PB of 3.99 metres, an improvement of 8cm. Izzy took 9th place, registering a jump of 3.34 metres. Further action for Izzy, came in the under 17 women’s high jump, where she took 3rd place, clearing a height of 1.28 metres.

Under 15’s

Middle distance runner Oliver Adnitt, ran in the 800 metres (SX) race, which contained four under 15’s and two master’s athletes. Oliver was the winner of the two lap race, running a time of 2:16.5 sec. Next over the line in 2nd place, was his club colleague, decathlete and masters athlete Simon Downs, who was running his first 800 metres race, establishing a PB of 2:16.6 sec. Oliver was in further competition in the senior men’s high jump, where he took 4th place, going clear at a height of 1.50 metres. One place ahead in 3rd, with a clearance at 1.55 metres, was Simon Downs. Oliver was also involved in the long jump, where his effort of 4.36 metres, gave him a 4th place finish.

Gabriel Li La-Vigars made his club debut in April of this year. The words multi eventer fit him like a glove. He competes in all four throws, hammer, shot, discus and javelin. He is a high jumper and a long jumper too. A sprinter and an 800 metres runner. He competed in three events at this meeting, the javelin, the 100 metres sprints and long jump. He was the winner of the javelin competition, where he launched a new PB of 29.35 metres, an improvement of 1.96m. He took 6th place in the 100 metres, running a new PB of 13.8 sec, an improvement of one tenth of a second. The long jump saw him take 8th place with a new PB of 4.08 metres, an improvement of 9cm.

Sprinter Lois Richardson made her club debut this April. She has been learning her trade at open meetings, throughout the spring and summer. Mays County championships saw her make her bow at the event, where she competed in the heat’s of the 100 metres. Lois was in competition at this meeting in the sprints, taking 3rd place in the 100 metres, running a new PB of 14.0 sec, an improvement of two tenths.

Penthathlete Lauren McClean ran in her first 200 metres race. Preparing for her move up to the heptathlon in 2019. She was the race winner and established a PB of 29.5 sec. Further action came in the long jump, where she took 5th place, with a leap of 4.25 metres. Lauren also competed in the under 17 women’s high jump, taking 2nd place with her clearance at 1.45 metres

Under 17’s

Rosie Shepherd competed in three events. She was the 2nd place finisher In the 200 metres sprint, where she ran a time of 29.9 sec. She was the winner of the high jump competition, going clear at her PB height of 1.50 metres. She was also the winner of the javelin, with her throw of 17.41 metres.

Jess Townsend was in action in three events. In her first competition with the heavier 500 gram javelin, she took 2nd place in the event, establishing a PB of 15.86 metres. Another 2nd place was taken in the discus, where she put in a throw of 24.11 metres. She also took 2nd place in the long jump, with her leap of 4.00 metres.

Ellie Townsend, who also competing for the first time with the 500 gram javelin, took 4th place and established a PB of 11.24 metres.
