South Yorkshire Indoor Series – Meeting 1
English Institute of Sports Stadium, Sheffield

The first competition of the 2018/2019, South Yorkshire indoor open series was staged at the English Institute of sports stadium, in Sheffield, on Sunday the 7th of October. This year marks the 11th anniversary of the events existence. It is a competition for boys and girls in the under 11, under 13 and under 15 age categories. There are a total of four fixtures in the series, all of which will be staged at the excellent facilities, which the E.I.S stadium offers. All competitors are allowed to compete in three events of their choice, at each meeting. Awards will be based upon performances and points in the first three fixtures, with awards being presented at the 4th fixture.
Gabriel Li La-Vigars, is in his debut season with Kingston. He first set foot on an athletics track this April, in a Humber track league fixture. He is young man who is full of raw energy and enthusiasm. He is eager to learn and wants to master as many events as he can. He has competed all season with the Kingston junior team, in the very competitive UK Youth development league. He made his debut appearance at the South Yorkshire series, at this competition. His three chosen events were the 60 metre sprints, Long Jump and Shot Putt. He was drawn to run in race 2 of the 60 metre sprints, the first time he had run over the distance. He took 5th place in the race and established a PB of 8.74 sec. The long jump competition saw him take 8th place in a field of 17 athletes, leaping to a new PB of 4.16 metres, an improvement 8cm. In the shot event he threw another new PB of 6.26 metres, an improvement of 82cm.
The second South Yorkshire series meeting, will take place at the E.I.S. stadium on Sunday the 2nd of December.
