Nottinghamshire AAA Indoor Open Meeting

EIS Stadium, Sheffield – Sunday 25th November 2018

Four of Kingston upon Hull AC’s junior athletes were in action, at the Nottinghamshire AAA’s, Open Graded indoor meeting, at the English Institute of Sports stadium, in Sheffield, on Sunday the 25th of November.

Under 15 athlete Libby Hakney, is in her second competitive season with Kingston. She made her debut appearance, at the club’s annual spring open meeting, in April 2017. She made rapid progress, which saw her competing with the junior team, in the UK YDL league less than 3 months later. Interspersed between the league matches, she competed in the Humber track league and open meetings, at  the clubs based around the Humber estuary. In November of 2017, she made her indoor debut, at the EIS, at a Northern Athletics open meeting. In February of 2018, she made her Northern championships debut, at the same venue. Libby competed in both the 60 metres and the 200 metres sprint races. She fought her way into the 60 metres final, where she was the 8th place finisher. She ran in the semi finals of the 200’s, but missed out on a spot in the final. In May she made her debut appearance, at the County track & field Championship’s, where she was the silver medallist, in the 100 metres final. The month of August brought another debut. At the Northern track & field championships, at Liverpool’s Wavertree Stadium. Libby made the finals of both the 100 and 200 metre sprints. She took 4th place in the 100 final and took 6th place, in the 200.  September saw her make her County debut, at the Northern Inter Counties meeting, in Nottingham, where she ran in the 100 and 200 metres sprint races.  

At this indoor meeting, Libby ran in both of the rounds of the 60 metres series. Round one saw her drawn in race 6, which was a mixed group of males and females, in the age groups of under 15’s/17’s and 20’s. This was also  her first race in the under 15 age category, having just moved up from the under 13’s. She took 3rd place in the race, running a time of 8.54 sec. Round two of the 60 metres sprints, saw her running in race 5, she was again in a mixed group of 15’s, 17’s and 20’s. Libby put in an excellent run of 8.47 sec, just one hundredth outside her PB, for a 4th place finish.

Under 15 athlete Aimee Campbell, made her club debut, at this January’s County cross country championships, where she took a 10th place finish. The month of March saw her in further action, this time at the Barton & District AC’s, open cross country meeting, where she finished in 14th place. April’s traditional, annual Kingston open Meeting, took her out on to the track, where she competed in the 1200 metres race, taking a 2nd place finish. The track & field season saw her called into the Junior team, where she ran the 1500 metres race, in two of the teams, four UK YDL matches. In November she was a member of the Kingston under 15 girls team, which ran at the English National cross country relays championships, in Mansfield. Seven days later she was in Sheffield, where she competed in the regional final of English Schools cross country cup.

Georgina North has been with Kingston since the summer of 2017, she is a regular runner at both the Hull park run and the Humber Bridge park run. This March she made her debut outing at the Barton cross country event, where she took a 12th place finish. The track & field season, saw her running the 1500 metres race for the junior team, in the UK Youth Development league. In October she made her debut appearance at the Northern Counties cross country Relay Championships. Another debut came in November, when she ran in the Kingston under 15 girls team, at the English National cross country relay championships.

Aimee and Georgina are training partners. They travelled to the EIS stadium, for the Nottingham Open meeting, to compete in their first indoor 3000 metres race. Their opposition came from both male and female athletes, in the age categories of under 17, under 20 and seniors. Both girls gave a good account of themselves, with Aimee taking 7th place in the race, establishing a PB of 12:21.0 sec. Georgina took a 9th place finish, she also established a PB 12:32.2 sec.

Under 13 athlete, Beth Moodie, made her Kingston debut, in April 2017 at a Humber track league meeting, held at Grimsby’s King George V stadium. Just 7 weeks later, she was called in to the Kingston junior team, for the UK YDL match, at the home track of City of York AC.  She was in action at that competition, in the javelin throw and the shot putt. A month later, she again represented the team, in their home fixture, at the Costello stadium. She was in competition in 3 disciplines at this meeting, where she added the long jump, to the shot and javelin. 2018 saw her add the 70 metre hurdles race, 1200 metres race and the 75 metre sprints, to her UK YDL events list. Between the national league fixtures, she kept herself busy, in the Humber track league and at open meetings.

Beth Moodie was in competition in three events, at the Nottinghamshire indoor meeting. In each of her chosen disciples, shot, high jump and long jump, she was competing against athletes much older than herself. She is 12 years old, her opponents, were under 15’s/under 17’s/under 20’s and senior athletes. In the shot competition, Beth took 18th place throwing her personal best distance of 5.75 metres. In her first ever high jump competition, she took 12th place, going clear at a height of 1.10 metres, to establish a PB for the event. The long jump, saw her take 4th place, leaping to a new PB of 4.23 metres, an improvement of 44 cm.
